After six years of being an integral part of our family, our beloved Bosko Mau was laid to rest this morning. He had been ill for a while, suffering three urinary obstructions in the last month, and a final blockage this weekend... Sadly, the damage done to his bladder was not recoverable... :*(
http://www.catster.com/cats/279403 Of all the cats Jennifer and I have owned, Bosko was by far the quirkiest, but also one of the sweetest. A short list of his eccentricities:
A love of all things wool - many a mitty has gone into Bosko's secret lair, only to be found when we packed to move... Once, we even bought him a pink, Angora sweater at a yard sale.
Chewing on anything plastic - the first time he was blocked, we assumed he had an intestinal blockage from some swallowed item... We always assumed this was how he was destined to die...
Extreme skittish cat, when he was a kitten he was quite literally afraid of our shadows; we never thought he would come out from under the couch, he pretty much lived his first week there.
Yet, he was also a rather diligent guard cat... Any funny business outside and he would start growling and puffing up...
_Extreme_ love. Never have I seen a cat that loved people so intensely... It was sometimes annoying, but it was always sweet.
Both he and his sister learned to drink water out of our glasses and would prefer this source to all others. It started one day when they were kittens and I gave them a drink, who new it would be a source of amusement and annoyance for years to come...
The only people food he would ever eat was Spagetti-O's sauce and Proscuitto, and those not often.
His own theme song. Olivia wrote him a theme song when she was four, "Bosko the Buddy", sung to the tune of "Frosty the Snowman"
>Bosko the Buddy, was a happy jolly cat
>with big green eys and a black nose, and a belly that is fat
>Bosko the Buddy, his sister is Tiki
>She jumps around and catches bugs, which she likes to kill and eat
>
>There must have been some magic in those kittens that we found
>Cause when you jump up on the bed, they claw to get right down...
His own imaginary television sitcom, based on Full House with elements of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch (due to the cat, Salem). Several adventures were discussed, normally involving Bosko stealing food from the local butcher, Mr. Katsopolis, and the episode ending catchphrase, "Oh, Bosko" (wah, wah, wah, waaaaaah).

Being thankful for small favors, we did have a good last day with him. He has been ill for over a month, but Saturday night we finally knew that it was the end... He hated the medications so badly that he would refuse to come to mealtimes. He was loosing weight and generally hating life. So, Saturday night we gave him tranquilizers and one last dose of medication, then Sunday we gave no meds but additional tranquillizers. The tranquillizers made him comfortable and for a day and a night (last night), he was his old self again and we took turns holding him and loving on him. He even ate last night and this morning for the first time in days... Saturday and Sunday we let him sleep with us despite having to drape the bed in towels as he had lost control of his bladder function... The things you do for love... Last night he actually kept Jennifer awake most of the night so loudly was he purring and rubbing on her...
He will leave a huge hole in our lives, that little cat.
We will miss you, buddy.
