Felt Christmas Stars.

No time like the present to get started on my Christmas ornaments for the swap I'm involved in, so I started working on them last night. (No time like the past.) I discarded the styrofoam bell shapes I'd bought because nothing worked. Tissue paper looked miserable glued to them, fabric was too unyielding, paint doesn't work so well on polystyrene, and glitter was too messy and cheap looking. Don't know if I'll be able to use them myself, but I thought the ornament swap deserved more and better, so I set about making felt star shapes. The swap is for 8-10 ornaments, but I'm making 12 to be on the safe side. One is definitely for us to keep (it says '2007' on the back), and the extras will go to sibs - if there are any extras.

This morning I started on the embroidery out on the back deck while Elsie and Kenji kept me company, and then Todd did too. I decided to do starbursts on both sides 'cos they're easy, effective, and I love starbursts. Three on the red side, two on the green.

It 'felt' like I was getting nowhere...

And then suddenly I had results!

Fronts and backs all finished

So I went inside and started sewing the two sides together.

This step was as tedious as sewing can be. The ones on the left are sewn.

Now all that remains is for me to stuff them lightly, add a ribbon/cord to hang them by, and stitch the opening closed - which I'll do on the machine again if I can. Then finito! Laborious and boring, but not too difficult.

I don't know where I'm getting this newfound motivation from to start and complete projects but I no complain. Todd's off walking Kenji and picking up the Saturday newspaper.
