Im so late replying to this Bee mainly because though Id written post, Id done it in my head. Not alot of use!
I truly loved your review as always- it made me laugh out loud in bits - Google, The Escape Dungeons , Merlin the hamster, Are you an evil magical Being? yes/no. :-D
I think as ever you were easier on it than I was; I'm so grumpy with it since half way through last season I'm all out of excuses for the daft things they do. They really do seem to wish they didn't have to bother with Merlin's magic dont they? Though for that matter we saw no sign of Mordred's either (are we supposed to forget he has it?) and poor old Arthur is shown up as nowhere near as good a king as Queen Mary Sue is a queen - but who, after all, can compete with perfection? :-p The way they write The Once and Future now, he couldn't sniff out a traitor and form a cunning sneaky plan to save his life, bless his pretty little socks. The damage they do to his character and Merlins still drives me barmy but.. you know.... Yes that sound IS me chewing furniture.
Im a bit bored by the idea of yet another viper at the bosom SL so Im hoping Mordred is a bit twistier than he seems - but having Arthur apparently forgetting he's magic isn't a good sign that the elephant in the room isn't going to be ignored. I admit I really don't understand the collective ecstasy of fandom about Mordred but... maybe he'll grow on me. A bit.
I did love that the two eps were essentially Merlin and Arthur adventures and those are the very best things the show does - plus there were some scrummy scenes. On the whole; Im kind of ...ambivalent. The eps were fine but the endless stasis is just getting tired. One thing I can say the show is NOT so far (IMO) is more mature. Or surprising.
The reply I wrote in my head was much snapper. It just all seems so long ago now... :-P Uther next!
