I enjoyed your review and I enjoyed this episode too! I find it a bit sad that there was so much ranting earlier about these two first episodes, because even if they were not perfect I think they are still taking the show in the right direction on Merlin/Arthur, Gwen, effects, even the story line in this last one.
What I liked in particular was the many surpises and unexpected turn of events: Gwen's plan, the death of the bad guy, Mordred helping Merlin and stabbing Morgana and being knighted ...
Like you I liked the Merlin/Mordred moments. Actually, from the start when Mordred was looking with his piercing eyes on Merlin all the time I felt something was coming, for good or bad. He is a great character and the actor is good. And then in the final scene, when Merlin comes up to him from behind and slips his arm around his neck I was just laughing out loud. This is not even fan service, it felt for once that they give us more than the few crumbs we begged for. A new tasty dish has been put on the table for the eating. Not that it replaces the expected coming Merthur moments, but it could certainly heat up the show another notch, if possible with all those stripper knights around ...
And Gwen, I also liked her in this episode. Perfect that she stays in Camelot instead of riding out with the boys. In fact, the worst thing with this episode was probably Gaius's new wig!
"the way Sir Leon burst through that door without knocking leads me to suggest he’s no stranger to the room. Who could blame Gwen? That scruffy hair, that large arsenal of weapons…he’s every dull girl’s dream."
I still really enjoyed these episodes. I don't mock all that seriously and I do give credit for things I like. I personally think I'm quite soft compared to some people!
I really enjoyed the Mordred plot. I'm really not sure of what his actions are going to be from one minute to the next and think he's a brilliant addition to this season. I think because Merlin seems to be under so much stress, it's going to make his (justified?) paranoia towards Mordred really great to watch.

LoL, that made me laugh, you are so mean! ;))"
I don't mean it really. I've loved Sir Leon since his first episode. He was a huge part of my reviews in season 2. He is a bit of a teacher's pet though ;)
Thank you very much for reading! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
certainly. When I said "ranting" I did not really mean your review here but rather some earlier reviews on this episode that were extremely negative. So just keep up the good "mocking"! :)
