[Jaeyi] Fiorella's 13th Turnday Cake (Vignette)
Written belatedly. I found my cache of cake pictures and remembered that this is one of the ones Jaeyi wanted to make for Ella's 12th and got told no because of the whole "coming out party."
On an azure blue plate, this tipsy confection rises up in three tiers of brightly colored frosting and fondant. Cut and arranged so each ascending tier leans drunkenly askew, the whole cake has a haphazard quality to it that matches the chaos of colors employed in the decorations. Inside is a buttery yellow cake with ribbons of blackberry puree.
The base tier is slashed in triangles of azure and cornflower with a drapery of pearl-white beads hanging from the upper edge; the top of it, acting as a tilted platter for the second tier, is bright yellow with a necklace of orange beads at the base of the second level. The next tier, tilting to the left, is done in diamonds of orange and bright magenta, giving way to a row of paler yellow beads at the base of the third level. Striped in tilted bands of pale yellow and bright blue with another drape of white frosting-beads, the upper tier ends with a flat platform in blue to support a crown of six gumpaste flowers, deep red at the center with pale pink petals. A few tiny purplish star-flowers, carefully curled spring-green frosting leaves finished the decorations.
