"When she lay on her back there was nothing but sky, a clear dome of intense blue-green that gave her a feeling inside that was half joy, half pain." -page 1

So begins a bittersweet story of Olwen Pendennis and how humans invaded her world.
What can I say about this without spoiling the beautiful discoveries that await the reader of this book? It is well written without being heavy-handed in its description. The lush and alien landscape is painted with artistic love. And the characters are engaging, realist, 3 dimensional people. As we follow Olwen on her discovery of herself and her heritage we become immersed in mysteries, scientific phenomena, and the wonders of the human potential. We also experience the sad fact of prejudice and fear. But there is always hope for something better.

I feel as though I could never really do this book full justice because I don't want to explain anything too deeply because it is best for you to delve and discover on your own. Even though this book didn't have the typical happily-ever-after ending, I really love it; I can't explain exactly why. I don't normally prefer books with such a bittersweet ending, but there was such hope that it gave me a good feeling, nonetheless. Try it out for yourselves. <3
