Damnit, Daniel

Merry 2017 everyone! May your axes be sharp and your energy easily replenished for the field of battle.

My energy is a bit low at the moment, which probably has something to do with getting up at 4:30 am when D's alarm went off due to his working an early shift. I didn't stay up for the turning of the year, so at least it was more like 6 hours of sleep than 4 1/2. Fortunately I did still have two brain cells to rub together this morning since I needed to spend a good chunk of money ordering a new laptop after D's nearly 7 year old computer ascended a few days ago. As the computer is (was) named Daniel, this is sadly appropriate. It was a fretful couple days of attempting to resurrect it and then evaluating finances to determine whether it was better to throw money at old hardware to buy time, purchase a very basic CPU, or purchase a new laptop for me and give him mine. My laptop is entering its 5th year and the fact that we paid off the property in December made me decide to go the new laptop route. Now I will proceed to be twitchy over it for at least the next month because I second guess myself horribly over expensive purchases, especially when it in someway benefits me. I'm super glad it was possible to buy it! I just feel guilty. Urgh.

New laptop is going to have a truly ridiculous hard drive along with a newer processor, so I'm trying to just look forward to that. The grumbling over the limited ports and the USB-C hub with the SD card reader I needed to order keeps sneaking in around the edges though. (Let's not even discuss trawling through even MORE tech reviews, figuring out how many of what kind of ports I needed, and what cords would end up going where.)

Anyway, at least it will arrive in a week or so, which should give me plenty of time to set it up and to prep mine for D - primarily remove a slightly borked, two step dual boot - before anything potentially happens with Mom. So that's good at least.

Not surprisingly, I'm now looking at the forecast and going, "Sooooo when is it going to be not-frigid enough I can work in the shed to get more stuff listed for sale?" On the bright side - literally - increasing my morning light box time has kicked in sooner than anticipated and I'm feeling better. YAY. Now I have grand plans of going running later this afternoon as today has a high of 41°F(!!) with full sun and virtually no breeze. I think it's gonna happen as long as there's another mug of tea beforehand.

Finally, as it is OFFICIALLY 2017, I have started a book challenge! I ended up going with 50 books and we'll see how things progress. As long as I make it through some short fiction (i.e. Uncanny Magazine), then that's a reasonable number, but if I have to revise it downward then so be it.

Yes, I did upload this icon specifically to use it because it was the closest I had to glowy Daniel that wasn't also vaguely heartbreaking. I'm not at all tempted to name the new computer Daniel in a running joke. Really. The next desktop is fair game, though.
