Lesson Learned

The bad news is that one of my allergy medicines (Qnasl) has been interfering with my thyroid. Okay, technically my adrenal glads, I think, but yes. I'm on thyroid medicine for hypothyroidism already and know my body has a notable response to even minor shifts, so at least I had an inkling that something was happening. Confusing the issue was another allergy med that apparently only crosses the line into problem when in combination with the effects of the Qnasl. I stopped taking that one and, hey, things improved! Meanwhile, I knew the Qnasl had caused very minor changes to my period once it really started to take effect and the allergist had already reached the conclusion that my thyroid was coming into play, but he tried to replace it with something the pharmacy couldn't get at the time so I said to the pharmacist, "eh, just refill the Qnasl. The effects aren't major." Last Tuesday I talked briefly with the allergist again regarding test results (we ironically skipped the thyroid test because my general MD tests it every 6 months or so) and he said to just stop taking it all together, which was a good call considering I didn't appreciate there were other things happening until I woke up this morning and said, "Oh, I'm not getting hot at night, those are night sweats." Then I basically facepalmed because that puts a different perspective on events of the last week in particular.

Weirdly, this makes me feel better about the lingering aches in my legs and hips from last Tuesday's exercise class. It's not that I really overdid it - which I've been both confused by and kicking myself for as stupid and oblivious - it's just that my body's ability to recover from weight training type exercises is especially shot to hell right now.

Anyway, the good news is the realization and that things should slowly begin to adjust back to an even keel. In the meantime, I can roll with the punches as I'm aware they're happening, they're relatively mild, and I know they should be temporary. I can definitely live with temporary. :) Plus, the holiday and the fact I go to a university rec center means no exercise class next week, so it'll be easier to not 'overdo' it under these operating conditions!
