It's been a good day. The pups had us up at 4:30 am, but then conceded on going back to sleep until 7:30 am. At that point they were wound for sound, but much better than pre-dawn hyperactivity. They ran some of it off, then we were off to the vet's with D. We had to pick up D's mom's dog and get the pups their first shots.
Beagles are professionals in the cute department, so they were a big hit, especially since their cuteness factor multiplies exponentially when presented in pairs. They whined a bit ("Who the hell are these people, Mom??") but loved the attention, and then got really happy when they saw their buddy, D's mom's boxer. The kids got weighed, had their wellness checks, shots, and wormer. The shots involved treats, so they didn't even notice the needles - if you ever need a beagles undivided attention? Just wave some food under their nose. Their ears were sparkly clean since they clean them for each other, and everything else checked out just fine. River weighed in at 8 pounds while Jack is 9.2 pounds. Jack's got a shorter, stockier build and flirts outrageously, particularly when there's food involved. River's a bit taller, a bit leaner, and tends to be more high strung and more curious. *pats self on back for names*
We made it home and the pups went with D as I had every intention of eating lunch and heading into the coffee shop to sit and write for a while, maybe a short nap to digest before leaving. I did make it to the coffee shop, but I was sidetracked by *cough* accidentally taking a 3 hour nap instead of something anywhere close to "short". Mmmm... it was damn good sleep though.
When I resurrected I remembered I needed to order my Dad's new computer. Mom is getting it for him for his birthday, but she barely gets close enough to a computer to dust it, so I was happy to do it for her. Plus, she's mentioned learning a bit about them, so I'm pretty happy he'll have something better that will be easier for her to learn on. It should be here by the coming weekend, so I can get things set up here and run it down to them.
As of the moment, I'm happily ensconced in a little piece of heaven known as Grounds for Thought. Not just a coffee shop, they're actually coffee roasters as well. The roasting operation is around the corner of the block, but the sale, grinding, and brewing of all those freshly roasted beans creates a smell in the place that has a direct connection to the pleasure centers of my brain. Add in that it's also a used bookstore and it's like building porn. Seriously.
Two cups of decaf later - I had enough sleep this afternoon, I don't need to compound the issue - life is still good. Although I have to admit that there are some interesting characters around this place today. Heh. Now I'm off to write about some LJ stuff in another post and FINALLY do the 10 things meme
digitalwave tagged me for and I have forgotten a few dozen times, plus a couple others. People, in case you don't know? I have a memory like a sieve - if you think I've forgotten something I PROBABLY HAVE. So for god's sakes remind me. I've had a check to deposit for a couple of weeks - a CHECK as in MONEY - and a library book to go back that's been overdue for week. I make lists and forget where the lists are. *headdesk* But yes! Memes! LJ stuff! Stay tuned!
