I downloaded the
updated version of LJ Archive today (
syredronning wins fangirl of the quarter for that at the very least) and that led to me running across some of Jack and River's puppy photos I'd forgotten about. Not surprisingly, this is the sort of thing that makes me smile. :D
This was with an older digital camera before I knew much of anything about them, so they're smallish and a bit grainy, but look at those subjects! (You can click for slightly larger versions.) With their original captions:
"Jack, with his tongue out, for some reason."
"River, trying to sniff the camera."
"Both the little culprits."
Also of note, they've done a 180° in physical characteristics and personalities since their first vet visit: River weighed in at 8 pounds while Jack is 9.2 pounds. Jack's got a shorter, stockier build and flirts outrageously, particularly when there's food involved. River's a bit taller, a bit leaner, and tends to be more high strung and more curious.
Well, River's still a smidge taller, but that's about it. It's kind of amazing, actually.
Then there's the pics I usually think of when I think of their puppy photos:
Pups, Sleep Deprivation, and Memes. I do have to wince, though, as that sleep deprivation was significant at the time. Besides the usual, I was coming off a job that had me at a near nervous break down, was on a high dose of Effexor (which I now know does not play well with my brain chemistry), and was in the beginning phase of a 2 year mourning period for Hunter. Yeah, it was a really bad winter, so it's kinda nice to see that I could at least pretend to be upbeat sometimes.
Bangkok had at least pulled through a serious illness by then. It had turned out to be a rare blood parasite followed by her intestines being blocked for several months. The nature and location of the blockage kept it undetectable until she was down to 3 lbs 12 oz (um... 1.7kg) despite thrice daily hand (force) feeding her nutritious goop. Remarkably, she's continues to go strong, 7 years later. She's never been as active as she was before and she does have occasional seizures now. She had one this afternoon, which was the first in a while.
(You can read some of the bits I actually posted about Bangkok's saga here:

Oh, hey! It's a whole
Jack and River Puppy album I forgot about!
