Jars. Jack. Oh, the Alliteration!

Feb 18, 2012 19:10

I washed 10 dozen canning jars today. That's 120 jars ranging from half-pints, to pints, to wide mouthed quarts, to half-gallons, to even a few gallon jars and other assorted sizes. I felt this event needed to be recorded. (I didn't empty that many - this is the backlog of jars that people have given me or that have been bought at auctions/yard sales/etc.) There's only 80 regular quart jars left to go! *wibble*

Regular posting will resume in... a month or so? Recs "auto" posting will continue with intermittent breaks for sanity. (My sanity, mostly.)

In the meantime, have a picture of Jack! Well, not technically, but I can guarantee you that it is precisely what he was thinking at about 5am last Tuesday morning.

I couldn't sleep, had gotten up about 4:30 am, and was on the desktop computer in the living room. Jack decided this would be an excellent opportunity to do a little night patrol and requested egress from the den. River went out as well, poked around a bit, and then wanted back in. About 20 minutes later, River jumped up off the couch and went running to the dog door that leads into the pen. I hadn't heard anything, but I stuck my head out the front door, and immediately said, "Oh, that's not good."

I called Jack in, hoping that he was in no way involved with the sudden smell of skunk on the air, but my hoping was in vain. Emergency bath time! Followed by a baking soda-hydrogen peroxide paste with just a bit of liquid soap. Fortunately for us - and for Jack, particularly considering his feelings on baths - he hadn't caught too much of the spray and the de-skunking worked perfectly the first time around. Nonetheless shivering and miserable by the time we were done. *sigh*

Meanwhile, River sprawled out on the bed and dozed back off.
