oxoniensis mentioned in a post today that
you can back up your LJ via Semagic. I had no idea this was the case and, of course, had to run off immediately and try it. It's working! Has worked, actually, for the entries, but I also opted to back up pictures and comments, and the pictures bit seems to be taking... some time. Ahem. So, for the first time in quite a while, I'm using an actual site posting interface - Dreamwidth, in this case, in deference to cross-posting. We'll see if I can manage it. :P
A sinus/migraine/whatever-it-feels-like-being headache has had me sidelined for a couple of days, although I did manage to cobble together an outfit suitable for a funeral this morning and sit/stand through that this afternoon. The preacher wasn't particularly good - he rambled quite and bit and I thought he didn't know the deceased at all until he started telling stories, revealing he'd actually known him all his life. It was odd, to say the least. I've never heard Revelations quoted quite that extensively in a service, let alone with such... anticipation. I suspect he's really hoping 2012 is the year of the Apocalypse.
The kicker was how he kept recruiting and during prayers especially; he'd be all "bow your heads to pray" and then, after a couple of sentences, he'd be saying some variation on "God, these people want to invite you into their hearts and lives".
Hey, now! I didn't sign on for that!
*grumble grumble*
Anyway, besides tottering around in (very low) heels through soft graveyard soil and glaring at preachers, I've mostly been trying to just sleep since the painkillers I have on hand aren't budging the aforementioned headache. Decongestants helped some, but not much. At least reading is tolerable tonight as long as I'm wearing reading glasses and after I reduced my screen resolution to enlarge everything and lightened up the f.lux application a bit.
I've started nibbling around the edges of Yuletide although most of my interaction has come via copying over bookmarks from my Pinboard network. Interesting thing to note: each Yuletide work has two viable URLs.
Random choice (The Captain of Caledonia) as an example:
http://archiveofourown.org/works/302871http://archiveofourown.org/collections/yuletide2011/works/302871 The only reason this is pertinent to me is in reference to my Pinboard network. If I saved the first link and someone else saves the second link, then it shows up as a new fic on my network page, one that I don't already have bookmarked. Also, the first link displays as a typical AO3 work while the second utilizes the Yuletide header and sidebar. I'm going with the first example as my standard because, obviously, having some in one style and some in another style would just make me twitchy.
