Well, now, this is a post that's a bit overdue, yeah? I had vague thoughts of splitting it out and posting bits on separate days or what not but, no, I'm just not that patient. I'd probably forget I had more to post. I'VE DONE ALL THE CODING. IT'S GETTING POSTED. After I tag this puppy. That could take a while. (Actually, it always entertains me how many fandoms aren't represented, because it seems like there are so many when I'm typing it all up. No due South, no Stargate Atlantis, no Smallville... BUT! There are plenty of others. You didn't have plans for this weekend, did you?)
It seems like there should be more, considering how long it's been since I've made a recs post, but I've gotten pickier about what I bookmark and therefore about what is recced. Plus, I have quite a few in the 'to read' file. Read that as: "even if it's a short Review Note, it's an excellent bit of fanwork." ♥
(It started out in alphabetical order, but the crossovers threw everything off.)
.: Doctor Who :.
Upholding the Laws of Time |
![](http://archiveofourown.org/favicon.ico)
AstroGirl [Gen, PG, 181 words]
Summary: Calvin encounters the Doctor.
Review Note: Surely it was inevitable. After all, Calvin has a time machine. :)
.: Doctor Who/Torchwood :.
A Softer Universe and
A Softer Universe II |
![](http://s.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
ariaReview Note: Excellent remixes.
.: Dune :.
Goodnight Dune | Julia Yu [Gen, PG]
Summary: And a bene-gesserit witch whispering "they tried and died"
Review Note: I don't have any attachment to "Goodnight, Moon" (I somehow missed that one as a kid), but this is both sweet and spooky.
.: Glee :.
Can't Tell You What I Learned; I Could Tell You a Story or Two |
![](http://s.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
twentysomething [Kurt/Blaine, PG-13, 2.200 words]
Summary: The whole thing would be a lot more unbearable if his TA wasn't absolutely gorgeous. As it is, Professor Schuester and his collection of extremely ill-advised vests pontificate earnestly about Gregorian chants and Kurt watches Blaine out of the corner of his eye.
Review Note: Sweet and adorable.
Victorian Delights |
torn_portfolio [Kurt/Blaine, PG, 1.185 words]
Summary: Several minutes passed, both boys’ attention seemingly on the movie, when Kurt shifted his legs lightly, causing the hem of his jeans to ride up an inch or two, exposing his ankles. Blaine’s eyes focused on the newly revealed skin. A laugh bubbled in his throat at how ridiculous he was being, but truth be told, in all the time he had known Kurt the other boy was always dressed head to toe in either his Dalton uniform, or fashions that looked to be straight off the runway. It was quite Victorian, he thought to himself...the excitement and intrigue over two delicate, milky-white ankles being unveiled.
Review Note: I pretty much feel this way about the WHOLE FANDOM, jfc. It's almost embarrassing. This fic, however, is quite lovely and sweet and intense all wrapped up into one.
World's Greatest |
lookninjas [Kurt/Blaine, PG, 4.500 words]
Summary: In which Burt Hummel has several awkward conversations about sex, teenage boys, and the importance of knowing that you really matter to someone.
Review Note: Omg, this is the kind of fic that makes me call my occasional forays into this fandom (into this pairing, really, as I have only the vaguest notion of who the other players are) a guilty pleasure even if there's no actual guilt. All warm and fuzzy!!
A Serious Matter |
rachel_riot90 [Kurt/Blaine, PG, 1.200 words]
Summary: Ever since The Great Love Triangle of 1962 the Warblers have had clear polices and guidelines laid out for any and all interpersonal romantic relations. There's just one problem: none of the guidelines state what the approach to dating between two Warblers should be. Which is how, to Blaine’s utter horror, and Kurt’s mild amusement, they find their personal lives and budding romance the main topic of discussion at the latest Warbler meeting.
Review Note: Very, very fun. ;P
.: Highlander :.
A Proper Education |
![](http://archiveofourown.org/favicon.ico)
ishafel [Gen, PG-13, 1.469 words]
Summary: Those who can, teach.
Review Note: Methos teaching Freshman Comp, beautifully. <3
Attention, Shoppers |
amand_r [Duncan/Methos/Amanda, R, 10.765 words]
Summary: Rollback in aisle three: gemstones, cheap liquor and pickaxes.
Review Note: Ahahaha!! Methos, Duncan, and Amanda at Wal-Mart. Priceless.
.: Inception :.
Crime and Medicine |
![](http://archiveofourown.org/favicon.ico)
Eleveninches [Arthur/Eames, NC-17, 31.992 words]
Summary: When a simple extraction on Cobb goes haywire, Arthur loses a friend, gains an enemy, falls in love, and finds out exactly who he is -- give or take a new alias or two. In which Fischer is incepted, Cobb's secrets are property of the U.S. government, and Eames teaches Arthur that PVPing is an excellent life skill to have when you're accidentally becoming a bad ass dreamsharing motherfucker.
Review Note: More crack-ish than I'd expected, but brilliantly so! There were a few times I had to stop reading and put my head down until I quit laughing. :P
All the Rules to Break |
foxxcub [Arthur/Eames, NC-17, 28.000 words]
Summary: A notorious serial killer returns after a three-year hiatus, reminding Detective Arthur Moss of the infamous case he couldn't close. But when the FBI becomes involved, Arthur is forced to work side-by-side once again with Special Agent Daniel Eames, a man who knows Arthur better than Arthur himself will ever admit. Both men must confront their past and heal old wounds in order to bring a psychopath to justice.
Review Note: Part case fic, part romance, and an entirely good read.
.: Inception/R.E.D. :.
This Famine that Carries Me |
Nevcolleil [Arthur/Eames, PG-13, 2.199 words]
Summary: Frank Moses is Arthur's father. Here are three times Arthur's crazy-ass family scared the crap out of Eames (and one time when he didn't mind so much).
Review Note: Crossover between R.E.D. and Inception, which actually makes a pretty good head canon. Frank's blend of sweet smiles and fucking crazy bamf!ery matches Arthur pretty damn well.
.: Inception/DCU (Batman, Teen Titans) :.
The Inescapable Truth |
ethrosdemon [Arthur/Eames, NC-17, 11.599 words]
Summary: Gotham never changes. Wherein Arthur is Tim Drake and he returns to Gotham when Jason kidnaps Dick. Eames tags along and is sort of a supervillain.
Review Note: Heavy on the Batman/Teen Titans/DCU and works well. Eames is a bit of a puzzle, but it's Gotham, so that works too. The accompanying art is lovely and uses Matt Bomer as Dick, which worked really well in the context of this fic. My brain had no problem with that image whatsoever.
.: DCU (Batman)/Angel the Series :.
I'm Not a Sucker, So I Don't Need a Bodyguard |
musesfool [Gen, PG, 2.935 words]
Summary: Cordelia's been in the game long enough that she can spot a secret identity from a mile away.
Review Note: Cordelia really is Just That Awesome.
.: Labyrinth :.
Her Kingdom as Great |
![](http://archiveofourown.org/favicon.ico)
MarbleGlove [Jareth/Sarah, PG, 21.157 words]
Summary: What's said is said, and Sarah said, "My Will is as Strong as Yours and my Kingdom as Great." And then, of course, she lied. A series of one-shots.
Review Note: Brilliant and wonderful!!!
.: Original :.
Anu-Anulan & Yir's Daughter |
sockfellerReview Note: A beautiful story, beautifully drawn. An original myth in comic form.
.: Rango :.
Happiness is a Wind-Up Fish Toy |
geonncannon [Gen, G, 756 words]
Summary: Rango thinks about things.
Review Note: We all have those days, Rango.
.: Sherlock Holmes :.
All My Secrets Away | Anon [Gen-ish or Sherlock/Lestrade, PG-13, 8.466 words]
Prompt: Lestrade doesn't have a first name. He gave it away in exchange for ___?
Review Note: A sort of fairytale about the dangers of supernatural bargains. Very well done.
Big Brother is Watching You |
flawedamythyst [John/Sherlock, PG-13, 5.717 words]
Summary: Sherlock and John enter the Big Brother house.
Review Note: Both hilarious and horrifying. Proof that Mycroft has a sadistic sense of humor.
Like Leaves & Kings (All Things Must Fall) |
gyzym [John/Sherlock, PG-13, 5.384 words]
Summary: Sherlock is the worst roommate in the world. John suffers him less gladly than he could, but better than most.
Review Note: I'm okay with legless lizards in fic, even if not in real life, but if you find even fic mentions of them problematic, this may not be the one for you. Personally, I found this particular legless lizard charming and the whole thing quite funny.
Faint Like a Heartbeat |
flawedamythyst [John/Sherlock, PG, 2.968 words]
Summary: Coda to The Great Game. But some emotions don't make a lot of noise. It's hard to hear pride. Caring is real faint - like a heartbeat. And pure love why, some days it's so quiet, you don't even know it's there. - Erma Bombeck
Review Note: A bit of a Sherlock character study, relatively quiet, and over all wonderful.
You Call Me Like the Moon |
etothepii [Gen, PG-13, 3.000 words]
Summary: John's a doctor. But when he's not a doctor, he's a werewolf.
Review Note: I love Etothepii's world building. This is about John becoming comfortable in his own fur.
John's Midnight Garden | Anon [Gen, PG, 10.519 words]
Summary: For as long as John can remember he has dreamt of the garden. It isn’t a place that he’s ever been to in real life, but when he closes his eyes and drifts off he sometimes finds himself there.
Review Note: This is a spectacular fic ala Tom's Midnight Garden. I had never read the book, so that's definitely not necessary, but if you have, you've probably already bookmarked or clicked on the link (it seems to have quite the following). I would love to see it posted somewhere as all one piece, but it's definitely worth reading through the 21 comments it's broken up into.
Some of Your Time |
![](http://s.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
lavvyan [John/Sherlock, PG-13, 3.100 words]
Summary: Somewhere between the Tesco Metro and Baker Street, John has lost an entire hour.
Review Note: Fascinating and surreal twist on the phrase 'time is money' with wonderfully in character John and Sherlock.
London and
Afghanistan |
mariemjs [John/Sherlock, PG]
Review Note: (Note that there are two separate links.) Gorgeous artwork - see the artist's note on 'London' as to why it's identified as 'John/Sherlock'.
Tidying Up |
![](http://s.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
elementalv [Gen, R, 1.091 words]
Summary: The question was ill-advised, and John knew it, even as he asked it, but he was helpless before Mrs. Hudson and her unexpected determination to tell John far more than he ever wanted to know about her.
Review Note: *snorfle* I absolutely believe this back story for Mrs. Hudson.
Symmetrical, Unbroken |
knkwrtr [John/Sherlock, NC-17, 11.447 words]
Summary: Sherlock is intersexed and identifies himself as a man. His ambiguous genitalia and the history of his sexuality and identity are what have kept him from being close to people romantically, particularly John. John finds out or is told, and it really is all fine.
Review Note: The Author's Note (at the end) and the comments are as equally recommended as the fic.
Can't Solve People |
![](http://archiveofourown.org/favicon.ico)
elster [Gen, PG, 2.040 words]
Summary: Lestrade's second tactic for dealing with Sherlock is pretending that he is an alien that learned human behaviour from a badly researched book. Sometimes this approach works better than the five-year-old. Today seems to be one of those days.
Review Note: *snorfle* Poor, long suffering Lestrade. His life would be so boring if he didn't know Sherlock Holmes.
Transport |
![](http://archiveofourown.org/favicon.ico)
thisprettywren [John/Sherlock, NC-17, 10.288 words]
Summary: Everything else is just transport.
Review Note: When the sensory overload gets to be too much, Sherlock seeks refuge in a private club where they're willing to cater to very individual needs.
.: Sherlock Holmes/The Addams Family :.
Etothepii's Amazing Series
Sic Gorgiamus Allos Subjectatos Nunc |
etothepii [Gen, PG-13, 5.700 words]
Summary: "Sic gorgiamus allos subjectatos nunc. It's the family motto." "What does it mean?" "We gladly feast on those who would subdue us."
Woe and Arachnids [Gen, PG-13, 11.100 words]
Summary: "Wednesday, this is my flatmate, Sherlock Holmes. He's a detective. Sherlock, this is my niece, Wednesday Addams." "Consulting detective," Sherlock corrects sharply. "There's an arachnid in your coat pocket, did you know?"
Your Body Before Me [John/Sherlock, R, 3.500 words]
Summary: Sherlock experiments on John.
Review Note: There is no actual animal suffering in these fics. I lead with that because I misinterpreted an early scene and it nearly threw me off for the rest of it and that would be a terrible shame because these fics are awesome. John, you see, is an Addams. NO, REALLY. It works so much better than you would think and, by the third fic, it's pretty hilarious when Sherlock is realizing he's the normal one in the room. <3
.: Sherlock Holmes/Hawaii Five-O :.
A Series by Ariadnes_String
Aloha, Dr. Watson |
ariadnes_string [Gen, PG-13, 2.300 words]
Summary: At least one of them was calm as fuck.
Pelekane: or, The English Visitor [John/Sherlock, PG-13, 4.700 words]
Summary: John vacations in Hawaii. Danny thinks there might be more to it than meets the eye.
Review Note: Steve meets Dr. Watson in Afghanistan. I loved it! Crossovers don't always work, but this one does. Danny's POV in the second fic is quite entertaining.
.: Hawaii Five-O :.
Not Tonight Honey, I Have a Headache |
![](http://archiveofourown.org/favicon.ico)
kho [Steve/Danny, NC-17, 3.024 words words]
Summary: Chin and Kono stare at them bemusedly, as they always do, and then Chin says, “Wow, man, you really are his work-wife.”
Review Note: Just plain fun!
Weight of Lost Days Holding You Down |
gyzym [Steve/Danny, PG, 7.100 words]
Summary: Steve jumps off buildings; Danny hits the wall.
Review Note: Grace is sick and Rachel, exhausted, calls Danny, who has been chasing after Steve and hasn't actually slept. Actually part of the same verse as "
Curving Like the Ocean Toward You" but can be read alone. Steve/Danny est. relationship. (Have I recced Curving? If not, you should read that one, too. Steve/Danny, NC-17, 20.500 words.)
.: Stargate: SG-1 :.
The One Where Of Course Aliens Make them Do It. And Daniel is a Big Perv. |
splash_the_cat [Sam/Jack, PG-13, 724 words]
Jack's Confinement [Sam/Jack, PG-13, 533 words]
Review Note: Crack fic - for an SG-1 team that doesn't take itself too seriously. :)
Good Morning, Penthesilea |
![](http://archiveofourown.org/favicon.ico)
stultiloquentia [Jack/Daniel, NC-17, 7.696 words]
Summary: The gizmo had zero effect on any cultural signifiers of femininity, naturally.
Review Note: Brilliant use of the sex swap trope.
.: Star Trek :.
Revenant |
jimpage363 [Gen, PG-13, 941 words]
Summary: Jim Kirk died on Tarsus IV.
Review Note: Spooky and unique and very memorable.
Wherein Gaila is Molting |
kayliemalinza [Gen, R, 2.154 words]
Summary: Gaila wakes up itchy at 0530 and moans when she looks in the mirror. Her belly is splotched with yellow and red. At her waist the skin is brittle, dried-out brown, and crumbles when she bends. She thinks for several panicky moments that she is ill, but as she prods at her limbs and breasts, tugs the roots of her hair, tests the edges of her eyesight, she realizes she is molting. Gaila moans again. How has this surprised her? Is she now so ignorant of her own body?
Review Note: Gaila is so wonderfully, amazingly alien here.
Poetry, Language, and Thought |
![](http://archiveofourown.org/favicon.ico)
centrifuge [Kirk/Spock, PG, 7.235 words]
Summary: Spock gets schooled. Kirk is an honorary monk. Sulu is insubordinate, Chekov is wildly inappropriate, and Bones is the only person with an ounce of sense, and that ounce is all bourbon.
Review Note: I actually laughed out loud a couple of times - and then slapped my hand over my mouth as D was sleeping next to me.
Heel Turn |
![](http://s.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
brownbetty [Gen, PG-13, 2.064 words]
Summary: Eventually, they discover it's all McCoy's fault. “What!” he protests. “He came to me with his hand sliced open from that damn pig-sticker of his, and I told him to find a hobby with fewer monomolecular edges! It's sound medical advice!” Jim steals the whiskey McCoy thinks he has hidden behind the condenser coils in retaliation. It doesn't really come close to making things even.
Review Note: Oh yeah, it's crack fic. :P
.: Star Trek/Matrix :.
Star Trek, What is the Matrix? |
ileliberteReview Note: Spock, Kirk, and Uhura via The Matrix.
.: The West Wing/Star Trek :.

raven [Gen or CJ/Donna, G, 2.500 words]
Summary: Ten trillion citizens, one thousand five hundred member worlds; CJ and Donna are getting through a lot of takeaway pizza.
Review Note: The chaos of elections, a couple hundred years in the future.
.: Star Wars :.
Dr. Seuss Does Star Wars | Art, Son of Adam!
.: Supernatural :.
Candy Hearts and Cupcakes |
team_free_love [Dean/Cas, PG-13, 3.942 words]
Summary: It’s Valentine’s Day and Gabriel takes it upon himself to “help” his little brother out with his love life as only Gabriel can. Fratricide is contemplated multiple times, Sam gets and gives cupcakes, and Chuck wishes he could become one with the wall-plaster.
Review Note: Silly fun!
.: Supernatural/The Fast and the Furious :.
Recharging |
khaleesian [Brian/Dom, PG, 10.278 words]
Summary: She told me, “Hey, the Charger was pretty unsalvageable down in that Mexican tunnel. How’s Brian driving a brand new one in the rescue scene?” Cue khaleesian, crickets chirping. kadymae rolls her eyes “who do we know who has a pretty well-stocked salvage yard?”
Review Note: A crossover that works well. Dean's POV on Brian is decidedly entertaining.
.: The Vampire Diaries :.
Bookends |
by_juliajewels [Damon/Elena/Stefan, NC-17, 5.079 words]
Summary: She can’t help it when she’s left alone in Stefan’s room, and his journals are right there.
Review Note: (I don't usually append '?format=light' to my rec links, leaving that up to the individual reader to decide, but this is black text on a dark gray background, so I made an exception.) I, admittedly, know very little about The Vampire Diaries, but the Damon/Elena/Stefan relationship/concept with all it's inherent complications between then and now fascinates me.
