Fandom Notes: Recs for the Week 10/10 - 10/17

Oct 17, 2009 21:42

.: Blood Ties :.

Watching and Waiting | ellia_dreams [Mike/Henry, NC-17, 2.615 words]
A pairing that is, as always, explosive.

Sacrifice and Sweat | midnight2501 [Mike/Henry, R, 1.388 and 998 words respectively]
I'm really starting to adore rounds_of_kink.

.: The Fast and the Furious :.

Talk | shadowakiyah [Brian/Dom, NC-17, 2.045 words]
Dom breaks into Brian's place after the end of the first movie and, once Brian gets home, they redefine the whole 'talk' concept.

.: The Dark Knight :.

Golden Years | lyssie [Gen, PG, 600 words]
Alfred and Lucius discuss things amidst the rubble of Wayne Manor.

.: SG-1 :.

Attitude of the Knife | sg_fignewton [Gen, PG, ~2.400 words]
First an explanation: Fig is one of the taggers for sg1_debrief so, despite the fact that she is a total gen fic person and I really don't read too much SG-1 gen fic, I've ended up communicating with her here and there. Round about 1:30 am last Friday morning I realized that I was - gasp! - craving gen fic! Trying to read anything with romance was leaving me cold! Fortunately, I knew just who's LJ could fix that and this was one of the fics laying around on my queue and it was wonderful! Fantastic characterizations, hilarious banter, and a long suffering Jack are only part of what make up this pretty much typical mission for SG-1. ♥

Displacement (SGA/SG-1) | smilebackwards [Gen, PG-13, ~3.500 words]
An episode tag to The Return, this fic is funny, sweet, and definitely good.

Some Roads (Aren't Meant to be Traveled Alone) | lilyleia78 [Jack/Daniel, R, 2.967 words]
A totally warm and fluffy retirement fic!

.: SGA :.

Displacement (see fic description under SG-1 above)

.: Star Trek :.
All STXI (more or less) unless otherwise noted.

Actions Speak Louder | jade_dragoness [Kirk/Spock, PG-13, 2.720 words]
Kirk has been kidnapped and Starfleet isn't moving fast enough to fix the situation. Spock finds this unacceptable.

"Damnit, Jim" | yeomanrand [Kirk/McCoy, PG-13, 358 words]
Sweet and hot and perfect.

If You Don't Start Drinking (I'm Gonna Leave) | robyanybody [George Kirk/Chris Pike, NC-17, 7.902 words]
George, Chris, bets, Las Vegas, shenanigans - practically a guaranteed combination!

It's the Grammar of Skin | vaingirlfic [Kirk/Spock/Uhura, NC-17, 15.960 words]
This is currently my ultimate K/S/U fic! ♥ ♥

Joyriding and Sonata-allegro | verizonhorizon [Kirk/Spock, R, 2.360 and 3.345 words respectively]
Some beautiful imagery as move from first kiss to something more.

Just Remember Me When You're Good to Go | irnan [Gen, PG.13, 2.775 words]
The botany lab is haunted (maybe), Spock is dubious (naturally), and there is more than one theory of how and why.

Kittens and Puppies, Oh My! | Anon [Kirk/Spock, PG, 694 words]
Deep space exploration is so... fascinating. I suspect Starfleet Command just thinks they're all on crack (which this is, in case you can't tell from the title *g*).

Of Cloudless Climes, and Starry Skies | irnan [Kirk/Spock, PG-13, 8.294 words]
(Always-a-Girl!Kirk) I liked this although it's a little hard for me to articulate precisely why. It has to do with Kirk being a girl, and being a girl changes a few things, but it's not something she must rise above - it just is.

The Orion-on-Vulcan Method | anodyna [Gaila/Spock!Prime, R, 6.929 words]
How can a perky Orion recuperating on New Vulcan not be funny?! Absolutely wonderful. :)

Red Alert | mullenkamp [Kirk/Spock, PG-13, 3.396 words]
A bit of crack with a fun twist! Attacks on the Enterprise are not always at the most convenient times and, occasionally, it's actually the least convenient.

Seen and Unseen | cymbalism219 [Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 1.780 words]
Pairing is, um, 'sort of', but the fic is toasty hot.

Till it Be Morrow (TOS) | V.C. Park [Kirk/Spock, NC-17, 8.352 words]
A TOS look at a well bonded Kirk and Spock approaching the intimidating hurtle of Spock's first pon farr.

The Truth in Pretending | geenoway [Kirk/McCoy, PG-13, 4.379 words]
Jim's a little slow on the uptake, but he gets there eventually. Warning: May induce a serious case of the warm and fluffies.

Untitled (Star Trek Mobster AU) | daria234 [Kirk/Spock/McCoy mentioned, PG-13, 654 words]
Part of the Fall Fandom Free For All, this is a brief rundown of the organization from the POV of a third party. Works quite well and would serve as a most excellent plot bunny.

What is it About Men? | ken_ichijouji [Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 919 words]
Lemme just give you the prompt on this one... "We've seen the fics where Jim is the wild one in bed. He's insatiable. I would love to see the reverse. It's been a LONG time for poor Bones what with the divorce and all the nastiness before it was finalized. I want all that frustration there when they finally get a clue and get together. Bonus if Jim wonders about what he's gotten himself into. ;)" (BONES FTW!)

Icons | schattengrafix
A gorgeous collection.

Plus, see the Art Post that went up earlier this week.

Some fandom media hits, focusing on Star Trek. Both Newsweek.com.

Spock, Kirk, and Slash Fiction
"K/S has it all: friendship, relationship drama that gets resolved, enormous expressions of devotion through sacrifice, trust and commitment over a period of decades. It's really hard to find another fictional couple that did all that, and did it as well."

Rare Snapshots from Early Star Trek Conventions
This was via cofax7 and, as she mentions, it shows "how very many of the participants were women". I like to refer to this slide show as "the origins of fandom".
