svelte

i caught most of 'Dogtown and Z-boys' on tv. it's very much in my culture-reference landscape, i think mainly cos it was shown at the Vancouver film fest in 2001 that i threw myself into, and i've seen it mentioned several times since. it's fairly influential and famous i guess, as a feature-length documentary, for it's aesthetic style. i've had a few chances to see it at the cinema but it never made it as a priority, though i've been vaguely curious. well, it was partially really quite dull. self-referential, self-important, just boring (the build-up which was all surfing, i really kept wandering off in). but the old footage and photos of the kids skateboarding, that stuff was absolutely great. in the second half i really wasn't going anywhere, the superfluous interviews just had to be tolerated to see some more of the good stuff.

anyway, i'm not interested in being 'thin', but i would like to be lithe, strong, able to do more than just carry my own weight, able to propel myself through the air, move, dance...

i see 3 obstacles:
1. lack of time
2. laziness
3. lack of co-ordination/grace/rhythm
