shopping

so, last month i looked at my bank statement to see that, yup, i've frittered away pretty much all my savings now. it's been a year of very little economically reward. so... i have to go back to thinking about money all the time, which is a bit of a wrench. really, i should have gone back to doing that at the start of the year, and i would have maybe another year's worth of being able to not do very much. also, i'm just bad at it. i'm too used to being able to jump on the train, get the bus when i'm feeling laze, buy expensive snacks and later go out for dinner and so on. i have a moderately extravagent lifestyle which i find difficult to keep under control.

having said that, at the moment i have my eye on a bunch of stuff that i want to buy. it's all cold weather related... proper winter coat, but not too proper. i bought a wool winter coat years ago in spitalfield market, it's ok, but it's boxy (boy's cut, and too big) and heavy and mostly, too hot. i want a coat that's a little more substantial than my usual microfleece+rainproof and means i don't fluoresce all over the tube/bus or when i'm not otherwise outside in the dark. i like the idea of a proper woollen winter coat, but i don't think i actually want one really. just need something to keep my middle warm.

if you can be bothered, these are under consideration, damn expensive though, the lot of 'em:
Half-wool car coat from Gap £80
Wool Chester coat from Uniqlo £100 maybe too heavy/long
'Jermyn Street' wax jacket from Superdry £115 this is the only one i've tried on, it's a nice length and cut, not sure about the high street styling and whether it will perform/last ok.

oh, and i want thermals, going to get some more heat tech Uniqlo stuff, but i also want a merino baselayer long sleeved thing for cycling in. and merino leggings/long-johns. actually i think i just want them for sleeping in. it's getting cold out.

ETA: think i'll try this one from Decathlon. £20. mostly they go from £40-£60 for the posh ones. not much between them in price - even Rapha is 'only' £50. maybe i should just go for the best. hmm.
