Good morning Friends.  I had started walking a few weks ago to try and lose some of this fat around my middle, and to get in better shape as well.  I seem to have gained some weight and with my back injury, this is not good.  Fourth of July weekend, Gretchen and I were at the farmer's market and when I picked up our bags, I felt something slip in ( Read more... )

Thanks Stef, I already know from previous MRIs taken years ago that I have degenerative disc disease, and the discs are bulging. I know from my pain that the sciatic nerve is irritated because I get shooting pains that feel like electric zaps down my legs. I really do not want to have surgery if I can help it. So my Doctor wants to get a new look at what is happening and then the pain clinic can procede with a treatment. I am looking forward to getting some relief, and starting some kind of physical therapy too. I am headed to the pool this Friday, which always makes me feel better due to the bouancy taking the pressure off.

It really is different day to day. Today has been painful, but the weekend was good. I am at school and I took motrin and tylenol.

Thanks dear friend, I know it will be better once I can get the MRI done and begin a treatment or therapy. This Friday Gretchen is taking off so we can go to the pool :0) ahh nice floating in the water. It takes the pressure off my spine.

oh yes! that'll feel heavenly!

and your desire to start walking will help too.
if you can, try to do a bit of yoga... keep the back flexible, at least as much as possible.

*hug* be good to yourself!

My friend David gets your kind of problem with backs - his turned out to be a leaky disc. I do hope you can get on top of it. I guess losing weight always helps so you will have to keep up the *g* farecking. Swimming sure sounds like a good idea. I love being in the pool but I really hate the five minutes afterwards in a pokey changing cubicle when I'm wet and cold!

*big hugs to you waiting for an MRI*

Pity you can't read and walk at the same time. But wow, you get a lot of reading in. I can't find the guts to stick to the kinds of books I should be reading for next term.

Maybe you need talking books and an iPod... *g*

Believe me I have thought about seeking talking books. Some of these are a snooze-fest. I have to force myself to read them. LOL.

I can just see you listening to a talking book and pacing wildly round the neighbourhood. People will say, look there goes that mad Quaker guy... *g*
