Comedy, politics and baseball. Go Sox!

I missed last night's Saturday Night Live because I was watching the baseball game, but I saw clips this morning online. If you missed SNL too, you have to check out Amy Poehler's Palin rap. Not only is it lyrically clever and well delivered, but my gosh, she is 8+ months pregnant and moving around like that! Amazing. If I were as big as she is, I would be lounging in a lazyboy recliner making people rub my feet and peel grapes for me. She is awesome. I loved the Mark Wahlberg follow-up skit too. The cold open with Tina Fey was good, but not great. Tina Fey was great of course, but Alec Baldwin was so obviously reading from cue cards that it kind of took away from it. And although I do not want Sarah Palin to be the next Vice President, I do give her credit for having a sense of humor and going on the show. Or at least appearing to have a sense of humor, who knows.

The baseball game was good, but odd - first you couldn't see it because TBS lost power in Atlanta. They couldn't even put a scroll across the bottom saying there were technical difficulties. Finally, they put up a scroll, and then the game came on with the Rays already up a run. Then at some point, the homeplate umpire was hit in the head by a foul ball and had to leave (I hope he is okay) delaying the game for 17 minutes. Then it settled down into more of a normal game, although it is so strange to see that stadium full of people. The Rays have never been so popular! It's usually barely 1/3 full and the crowd always seems to be made up of Red Sox fans. I think that the inexperience of Tampa in this high pressure moments has been showing the past two games, while the Red Sox seem to kick it up a notch when the pressure's on. Obviously I want the Sox to win, but I also am really impressed with how well the Rays have done this year and it's always a shame to see a good team lose. Tonight's game 7 will see a good team lose either way.

And I feel like the ultimate losers are fans like me who have to stay up to freaking midnight to watch a baseball game, and then drag their tired butts into work the next morning. Why can't they start the game at 7:00 like they do in the regular season? Come on, 8:15 is just too late to start the game! But if the Red Sox are fortunate enough to get to the world series, I will find a way to get by on less sleep. Go Sox!
