Yorkshire Air Ambulance / Richard Hammond

Sep 24, 2006 14:08

By now I am sure everyone has heard about Richard Hammond's 280mph crash last week, and subsequent rescue by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Shortly after the crash was announced, members of the PistonHeads forum were looking for a way to send their best wishes to Richard and his family. At first flowers were considered, but then someone came up with the idea of raising money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance - with an initial goal of £340 to cover the cost of the flight.

Roll on a few days and the fund was into the thousands. There was a plan to redirect donations after 10:00 on Monday to all Air Ambulances in the UK, but in light of the family's wishes all donations are going to continue going to the YAA. So far today the total stands at £140,614.00 and the YAA have recently announced plans to use the donations to fund a second chopper to be based in South Yorkshire.

Air Ambulances, like the RNLI, are funded entirely by donations. If you would like to make a donation, you can donate to the Richard Hammond / Yorkshire air ambulance:
