Inefficiency

I am filling in an overnight shift for a program I had never been to before, although I was familiar with the clients. The program manager asked me to do this and I agreed, provided that she would email me directions. She never did. I got the address from the list kept at my program. I mapquested the address and it seemed simple enough--although I did this after taking a sleeping aid and just before going to bed at 2 in the afternoon. I leave my house at 9:15pm, leaving myself enough time to pick up a frozen pizza and caffeine, drive to the program, and arrive 15 minutes early so I could touch base with the evening staff before they left. The program is in Chippewa Falls and I am not the most familiar with the area. Mapquest told me to get off at 133, and I drove straight into downtown Chippewa Falls before realizing Mapquest meant highway J. I follow the instructions and the end result is the middle of the wrong block. I call the overnight person at my program because I know that she knows where it is, and she tells me the correct turn off. I call the prgram that I'm going to so I can explain that I'm late and to ask for better directions. The phone rings with no answer. I get to the place. The layout of the building is different than any other I'd been in; there are no enclosed rooms other than the bedrooms adn bathrooms, there is no place where I can't hear each and every sound in the house, and since the bathrooms are between the bedrooms I don't know if I can even go to the bathroom myself without waking somebody up. The evening staff is assisting one client with using the toilet. She stays long enough to tell me that the other evening staff is still out with a client at country jam before dashing off. The two clients who need assistance going to the bathroom have buzzers now. Instead of checking on them every two hours, I get buzzed. I have assisted one client to the bathroom 5 times in 3 hours. Other evening staff arrives about 11:30pm and finally she gives me a little tour of the place; explains the meds (there's an overnight med), tells me what's expected of me in the night, and shows me the clients' updated books. She also explains that the phone number for the program is the wrong one and it hasn't been fixed yet. And there are birds constantly chirping somewhere.

Also during this time I have submitted a file to FAFSA and applied to CVTC to take some more courses. Maybe I'll feel better after I have my little frozen pizza. Maybe I'll feel better in the morning after I've punched a wall several times.
