Addictive Knits

A week or so ago, I started a memory blanket. The plan was to make it a long term blanket made of sock yarn scraps that I would work on from time to time when I had a new pile of fingering scraps from projects.  I don’t know if there is a laugh track high enough and cackling enough for how much that didn’t happen.  I’ve taken to posting the project on instagram with the tag #justonemoresquare.

I was calmly making a square a night when I got home from work. Then it was a square and a half, then the weekend came. First I reached 10 squares. I set a goal for myself that I would weave in the ends every 10 squares so I wouldn’t have a nightmare of a finished blanket. Friday, I did just that.

Ten squares, ends all weaved in, not bad for a project I only seem to work on in the wee hours of the evening.  But then came that magical time. The weekend. I went from 10 squares to 12 and it was just Saturday.

Sunday I had plans with some friends to watch the end  North and South as we started watching it bit by bit ages ago and finished the last part** last night.  **Except book three, there is no book three, just nope. Nope.  The images on the DVD case alone were enough to make us recoil in horror.

I seem to now have 18 squares. and the start of square 19. I think I am going to run out of mini skeins before I slow down. I am also spinning samples to include in the blanket but none are anywhere near done.  Currently I am knitting around, so the light colored square next to the orange one is my first square and the center of the blanket. Once I choose  a size I may start working only in one direction.  And I’ve been pondering a worsted version.  I’m pretty sure there will be more squares by the time this is posted.

Edit: 19 squares…
