Hey, peeps, I promise to get back to replying to the comments to my other post, but first I have an update. I asked my Ianto what she thought of my cupcake idea, and M being Ianto-esque, she researched it. Turns out, in our county, it's illegal to sell food you've made in your kitchen. Awesome. So I've got a couple of options. I can either do a word-of-mouth business totally under the radar (meaning no website, no advertising, no happy signs, no, er, legitimacy), OR I can make a totally legit business. I would need to get it registered, take a food safety certification class, and rent a commercial kitchen in which to do my baking. That's the tricky bit. How much is that going to cost? This weekend I'm going to look on craigslist to see if there are commercial kitchens looking for renters in my area. As to selling on etsy w/out the proper certifications and paperwork, you can totally do that -- until they find out and charge you a fine and shut you down. Also, in my county at least, you're not allowed to sell your shit w/ the stated caveat that it came from a non-Health Dept inspected kitchen, either. It HAS to be inspected.
So. Not sure what I'm going to do just yet. I will report back after I do some craigslist research.
In the meantime, I am going to watch the hell out of SPN in 25 minutes. Yeah, baby!
dastardly ideas,
