Love Affair w/ My Show.
A few days ago dodger_sister posted a kind of meme, asking how everyone was first introduced to their show. And I was thinking about things, and mulling things over, ever since. B/c today, TODAY, I bought my ticket for my first ever Con. Hoo boy. Here's how it happened:
I used to be an internet lurker. I did a lot of lurking on Television Without Pity, then finally I stopped lurking, at least in one thread, the Motivator Thread. I posted buttloads of Motivators under a different username over there. And, of course, other people did, too. And some of those Motivators were for TW. It looked interesting. So I said to M, "Let's give this a whirl." We watched the first ep, and I said, "Hot damn! Why aren't there more Motivators about that young dude?! And how do you spell Yawntoe?" Cue the first season of TW. Confession: I didn't like it very much. But right after the first season, b/c we watched it well after it aired, came the second season. And I liked that a whole lot. But then, woe, it ended. And I still wanted more!!! So I went to the internet. I asked the internet, "When is the third season coming? And what can you tell me about that young dude?" I quickly found that the answer to the first question was "in 80 bajillion years" and "he likes to sing this odd blues hybrid/screeching music and get drunk." So then I asked the internet, "Why does British TV only make a few episodes and what am I supposed to do while I wait for more eps?" And that's when I stumbled across fic. I had always avoided it before, thinking it strange (okay, really, I avoided it b/c I was scarred for life after reading this super long Harry Potter fic, the only one I had ever read, in which Ron was dead and Harry and Hermione had lots of sex -- it really, really disturbed me). So I started reading TW fic, and I found some I really liked. And I found some that made me want to turn in my card as a member of humanity. I said to myself, "Dude, you've got 80 bajillion stories floating around your head. Instead of reading that bit w/ the younger man and the immortal, why don't you try to write down your own stories?" So I very calculatedly made an LJ to participate in The Stopwatch Challenge, which was anon but would guarantee that people could find my stories (as I didn't know shit about posting things) and then the Red Is My Colour challenge, which I figured people would feel obligated to read if they were following the challenge. I was calculating! But then I got hooked on putting my stories to pen and paper (well, keys and monitor), and voila!
As to SPN. Oh, SPN. M and I like to watch the pilots of each new (network) show to see if we might like it. We had the pilot to SPN early, for some reason. And we liked it! And I immediately developed a massive crush on Jensen Ackles. What? He's beautiful! It wasn't a show I would ever discuss w/ anyone, though, until Cas (Misha Collins) showed up. I thought they were missing a logical flow by having demons and no divine counterparts. But w/ the angels, well, then! I didn't consider joining the fandom, though, until qthelights started posting about Misha. And then it became MY show, too!
And now I am going to a Con. First ever Con! I told kadiel_krieger and qthelights that I would go if Jensen went (Misha was already signed up), and lo and behold, he did! It is nine months away in Nashville and will be the weekend before my 32nd birthday. Yowza! MY TICKET COST MORE THAN THE ONLY CAR I'VE EVER BOUGHT!!! Of course, I bought a junker that lasted two years, and it was under $500. But still, it's the principle of the thing. LOL. And prom pics cost more!! I am totally getting prom pics b/c, dude, if I'm going to do this thing, I am going TO DO THIS THING. I will be bouncing off the wall. kadiel_krieger and qthelights are going to have to give me tranqs or something!!! LOL. I get nine months to both anticipate and worry about the Con! Ha.

Heh, Jared will be there, too, and I like him. But I'm going for the Misha and the Jensen.
And speaking of which -- Cas was back this episode!!! No spoilers here in case you haven't seen it. I was just super duper happy to see him!!
