A Fangirl in La Paz

Jun 06, 2012 14:29

Update number two from Costa Rica! We went to La Paz Waterfall Gardens yesterday, which is located on the slopes of the Poas Volcano. And on the way, we stopped at The Cheese Restaurant. That's not really what it's called, but that's what CD's family calls it, due to this incredible cheese tortilla they make there. It's like a stuffed tortilla, so still fairly thin, w/ additional cheese on top. I've had a lot of cheese this trip. Though I did finally have to confess that I don't like platanos (plaintains). At any rate, preview sloth and then on to the trip!

I don't know why I love you, but I do!

Heh, I started writing this days ago. It's been a wee bit busy. :) So, okay, La Paz. I think I'm going to focus on the animals, and do the countryside in a later post. La Paz is part wildlife refuge, part park. For my job, we focus on returning confiscated animals to the wild, but not every animal can be rehabilitated -- either it had too much exposure to humans, or it was sick, or it was in the pet trade from birth and never really learned how to be wild. Those animals still need a place to go, and La Paz is one of those places. So without further ado, I give you Dean and Cas, the snuggling ocelot versions:

Cas has his head on Dean. He's protecting him from the wilds of Purgatory.

Then we have the Nagron parrots. Seriously. The height difference is perfect:

Awww, Agron and Nasir! It even looks like Agron is talking, typical. :)

This toucan is the Gabriel toucan, for reals. This little turd muffin flew right at my head and nearly gave me a buzzcut:

Don't try to deny it! You have mischief on the brain.

Check out the size of the paws on this jaguar. Bruce Banner probably looks equally peaceful while sleeping:

Don't anger the jaguar, yo.

This puma is giving a total Black Widow look here.

Yes, I think you're pretty.

Spoilers for the Avengers (not really) -- Phil is the sleeping one. Clint is the eating one:

Snuggle bunny spider monkeys!

Okay, how about some waterfalls, yeah?

There are two, really. The landscape changed dramatically after a massive earthquake in 2008 or 2009. Parts of the mountain just slid off and roads and homes and lives were destroyed. The waterfalls changed, too. Here is the higher one:

And here is the lower one:

Er, at least I thought it was! they look remarkably similar. Here's the top of the second one, at least:

Mist started to move in as we got to the bottom. It was only around 3:00 when we left, and it was like driving through split pea soup. But the mist moving in was haunting and beautiful:

And finally, outside the gift shop we ran into Steve Rogers. He was feeling a little out of place and alone, but I told him not to worry, I would give him all the loving:

After that, another raccoon came out of the bush and they had a raucous discussion. Hmmm...

Stay tuned for further updates, in which I meet Tony Stark and Sam Winchester, plus interrupt Arthur and Eames in a delicate moment. Also, landscape pics will happen eventually. Woo hoo!
