“You shouldn’t have come back, Lindsey.”

“What can I say big guy, I missed you.” Lindsey’s tone wasn’t far from acidic to Angel’s ears.

Angel narrowed his eyes at his opponent and lunged for him, surprised at the shorter man’s quickness as he ended up flat on his face. Lindsey’s laughter only made him move even faster as he got to his feet, turning to glare at him as Lindsey waved a sword around as if he owned the world. “Fancy moves,” Angel commented, picking up his own weapon.

“I’ve always had them, you just never seemed to take interest.”

“I had interest, boy. Interest in your beat up taillights as it left my town. You weren’t supposed to come back.”

“You weren’t supposed to do a lot of things. The Senior Partners put a sign up with your name and CEO under it. That was what you weren’t supposed to do either, Angel.” Lindsey snorted and lunged after Angel, his sword drawn but unexpectedly only connecting his foot in the vampires’ chest. “I sure hope your standard line is that you’re trying to change everything from the inside. The only thing it’s going to do is change you and pick off every one of your friends until they leave you dark and alone…you remember what that was like.” He paused before his last comment; it was a cut to them both. “Only this time you won’t have a pretty blonde to blame…or fuck.”

A growl left Angel’s throat and he could almost see himself ripping Lindsey’s head from his shoulders at his words. He despised Lindsey, but the thing he hated the most was when Lindsey was right - especially completely.

Lindsey smirked at him - one that reminded Angel of the smugness he had in his eyes right before he cut off his hand - the two of them paced around the chamber and weighed his next move. “Did you lose all of your fancy come backs? Signed it awa-”

“No,” Angel cut him off, his eyes becoming darker. “Just wondering on what the Partners are going to do to you first.” The words left Lindsey distracted enough for Angel to pin him to the nearest wall, looming over him as his hand tightened around the former lawyers neck.

The sword he was holding clattered to the floor as his skin started to burn, his eyes angry as he stared Angel down. “The Partners?” He wasn’t afraid; he couldn’t be. He had forgotten how to years ago; being afraid got you hurt. “What, you are too big of a hotshot to handle shit yourself?”

“Not worth my time.” Angel sadistically smirked and Lindsey found himself face to face with the same look the night the Manners and Angel locked them in the wine cellar. “You’ll be dealt with soon enough, Lindsey.”

Angel’s eyes trailed down Lindsey’s bare neck and shoulders, his eyes fixed on his chest and the tribal ink he wore. Almost seductively his free hand trailed over the curve of the center glyph seconds before they were mystically pulled from his body, breaking his shield down and leaving him visible.

Naked.

The second Lindsey’s feet left the ground everything went blank, he didn’t even remember if Angel said anything to him as he let Wolfram and Hart have him on a proverbial silver platter.

Lindsey’s vision went white - but not in color - in pain. Nothing could describe the things The Partner’s did to him, it was only moments but felt like forever.

It didn’t take long for Lindsey to go numb to what was happening, to the things that violated him physically. He didn’t even put up a fight when they mentally raped him, ripping through his mind and memories for things they could use to make him suffer and pay.

“Not worth my time.”

Little did they know was that Lindsey paid, he always paid the price. And they didn’t know but the simple fact that Angel remained the one thing that was unattainable to Lindsey was the one thing that would forever keep him just a little bit damaged.
