I was told once that if you like your job, you never work a day in your life. I think a decent job is one where you're interested in what you're doing, and maybe one where you learn or have nice experiences. Sounds like this gig is working well so far.
Sucks about all the other stuff, but really, life is what you make it. Cars are overrated, and it's a shame Jersey isn't more like Chicago, big but small and all connected in a nice car free system of sorts.
Hobbies are definitely helpful as well. Saves your sanity. ;)
