So... its about 2:30.
Tonight I've been in a weird mood...
I've been thinking a lot about the future lately, and I've been thing about what I'm good at, and what I like to do. Ive been thinking that its very important to have hobbies, and also very important to have a marketable skill. I've been through a lot in the last few years. I've been burned emotionally and financially, and I've learned quite a few lessons. I've also grown up considerably. I still have my goals and ambitions, but I've trimmed it down from what it once was. Its a bit more obtainable now.
I always wanted to be an anthropologist. I wanted to write books, filled with pictures of foreign people and write about their lives and unique ways of life. I wanted to get a job for National Geographic and do documentaries on ancient people, and people native to foreign lands. But that would make me happy until when? Like until I'm 30?
I want a home. Not a house, a home. A place where I can actually sit in a chair in my living room and relax. I'm not sure if I want a TV yet. I think I might detox from TV and video games for a week or so and see if my life improves. All in all, what I want to have eventually is stability. A nice home, a nice car, and everything that just works. I don't want to jerry-rig my car to start. I don't want to go in the passenger side to unlock the driver's side. I don't want to have to park on a hill just in case my battery didn't have enough time to charge. I want to get in my car, start it, and drive to where I need to go. I want to get home, sit down, read a book, update my blog and do whatever makes me feel happy. I want to put away money for vacation, and go visit other countries. I just want everything to work.
I want stability and comfort. I know there are dozens of things in this world that make me happy, but the hard part is separating hobbies from careers. To be honest, school is looking more and more like a hobby every time I'm there. An expensive one at that. I LOVE photography, but if I were actually trying to make money with it, I don't think I'd be having fun anymore. It would be too much trying to make a picture for other people instead of making it for myself.
So, more and more I've been thinking lately that this electrician gig isn't all that bad. I've been working normal hours. Having my weekends free, and making very decent money. I have dealt with customers, and planned jobs from start to finish. I get my own assistant, I make the plan, and I get a check to use for the materials. Its just so much responsibility and I've been making things happen. Every day I feel accomplished, and every day there is a new challenge. No two jobs are the same, and no job is ever as easy as it looks. And every day, after work, I leave fairly fulfilled. And I really feel like I earned my paycheck.
