Part 5:

My first few months in the UK were wonderful. I became reacquainted with Sparrow’s family and friends through a series of parties. (Boy, does this girl like to carouse!) We started in Sparrow’s mother’s house, but when her grandmother broke her wrist, we moved in to take care of her. And so I became acquainted with the many houses in which Sparrow grew up.
The idleness was a bit maddening, but I regained time to rest and regather my bearings in time for my first meeting with my new company.
I met the supervisor of the computer department in late August. She was delightful, and we got along nicely.
I met her boss a couple of weeks later, at a trade show. It all went well. I even stuck around to help with a seminar.
I also ran into the boss of sales from my old company at that same trade show. Small world, indeed.

On my first day, I found out I was not to be the assistant, I was to be the replacement. The supervisor had submitted her 3 month notice right after the trade show, and I was to take part in a full power transfer.
In a word…WHOA!

Since then, it has been a non-stop rollercoaster of fast changes. I love it!
The pace has been such that it’s hard to even wrap my head around all the things which have happened in the past few months. Suffice to say, August feels like years ago.

Charging headlong into New Years, I am now in a brave new world. It’s almost become a habit for me to say ‘survive the week’, and my wife has been worried about my health little by little for quite some time now. But I can’t say I’ve ever been happier.

If anything, I guess the best resolutions for me to make now would be:

*Get a better balance to my life, so I can be both healthy and good at my work.
*Achieve everything I set out to do at work, and do it well.
*Expand my division to the point where I have my own lieutenants.
*Make at least two good holidays with my wife, one of which would be to the USA.
*Have a flat closer to my work, and a sustainable lifestyle.
*Be completely rid of any more nuisance messages from US companies.

Here’s to next year!
