An addendum to my End of Year review, and some additional strange occurrences

"I had forgot to mention that I had my 3 month review with my work the other day. It turned into the best review I've ever had. I got a big raise, and even bigger expectations for what I'm going to be doing over the next 6 months.

"The best way to describe what I'm now expected to do is to say I've been given a very long leash with which to make my department self-sustainingly profitable. It's an enormous opportunity.

"I now understand why most people get so vague about their work when they get to this level. You have so much to think about, and you're so worried about upsetting the balance of the whole affair, that you tend to tell people as little as possible. It also doesn't help that you know most of what you'd describe would be too technical for most ears.

"Anyway, this Christmas holiday has been a weird one. Here are some highlights:

  • Meeting 20 of my wife's friends at a Christmas party. I made good friends with one military man in particular. And I found out after the party he was my wife's ex-boyfriend!
My wife knew all along and assumed I did as well. But I never made the connection. But in hindsight, I'm glad I didn't.
I guess I needed this experience to bait myself into opening my mind.

  • I had a dream last night where I met my daughter. I looked in the mirror in one room of a shop, and saw my fully-grown daughter staring back at me. It took a couple of seconds for me to register who it was, but I was shocked. She smiled at me, and giggled a bit. Of course I told my wife, but she seems to be reserving judgement. Maybe she wants to believe it too.
It's not a bad thing to believe, though. She was awfully pretty...

  • My old website is actually attracting business for my new department. I guess I need to do some new updates of content to keep it up to scratch.

  • The week before Christmas, I went to an education seminar in the north. I made friends with hosting staff, and also my coursemate. He will be doing a similar thing to what I do, only in South Africa. Now I have an excuse to visit Botswana later this year.

"It's true, you never know what could happen, and big things start in little ways. So it pays to always be prepared and looking your best."
