 So I was expecting Show to give me at best a mediocre episode after last week’s extravaganza, because that’s just sort of how it rolls… but I then this week’s episode? Pushed aaalll my buttons in the best possible way. (cut for incoherent squee)
A++ Would watch again )

DUDE. I feel ALL of this. there's not even a point in me writing an episode reaction now.

I was so happy to see the gore. A lot of this season, I've wished for more gore, more creepy, more reminders that SPN once called itself a horror show, and this pre-title card death sequence made me squirm and go 'ew' and deeply gratified me.

I was also reminded of the xmas episode, a) because of the holiday stuff, and I just love the SPN approach to these things, loading up our traditional comfort triggers with nightmare fuel in the most tongue-in-cheek fashion. and b) because gore! excessive, gratuitous, 'this is actually on tv?' gore. YES.

the brother moments were great in a way they haven't been lately, and I definitely agree that Castiel was fleshed out and that said fleshing out was necessary to his character; he'd turned a little flat for me lately, but as of 5.14 I love him again.

gosh, I adore the overwhelming Dean angst. adore. that last scene-guhhhh. I've said it before and I'll say it again.

I KNOW, right?! All the things I love about Show were there! I was just so happy that the balanced Cas' bigger role with the brothers getting along, too, they really seemed more like a 3 person team here. I'm happy that Castiel's whole "sam is my friend" deal didn't get forgotten! Just in general I feel like this ep actually takes into account what happened last week, as sometimes SPN eps do not.

And YES on the last scene! JA is so good at playing the angst, I don't even know. SO PRETTY.
