Hi from Wildwood, NJ

I'm finally caught up on LJ! I had to go back FOUR PAGES to read all of my friends list--you people have been prolofic! I've been offline a lot because of the spotty wireless service here; the only way I can get a wireless connection at the moment is by sitting on the balcony outside our motel room, but it's nearly midnight and quite chilly, since I'm on the third level (it's actually 72F, which isn't freezing or anything), and there's quite a bit of wind up here so I'm going inside in a minute and getting ready for bed. We have to check out by 10 am and I want to go to the beach in the morning one last time and just sit on the sand and write with the ocean and gulls nearby; very inspirational, somehow.

We've been having a good time in Wildwood--went in the ocean, got some sunburn on the beach while Chris and the kids went to a water park, rode some amusements on Morey's Pier, ate food that's very, very bad for us (funnel cake is unlikely to be on any diet, anywhere, including Atkins, because although it's got plenty of fat it's also full of teh ebil carbs), rode some rented bikes up and down the boardwalk, went to the beach again with a lot more cover to avoid more burning, and, whenever we were in the room waiting for someone else to get ready to go somewhere, watched the Olympics and lots of Weather Channel stuff about Fay. (Stay safe, everyone in Florida!)

I will be returning home tomorrow with a lot more red skin, some extra freckles, a floppy straw hat I bought today because I forgot to pack the floppy straw hat I got in Wildwood two years ago, some salt water taffy to give to my sister and my friend Jim (who's feeding our cats), and some backstory work I've written for Undertaken while on the beach. I wasn't able to do much more footnoting on my papers, since I couldn't bring all seven HP books with me, and I haven't felt like I'm in the right frame of mind to respond to the feedback on my query, but I don't go back to work until Thursday, so I can get a lot of that done tomorrow.

How have your summer trips been?
