I actually do have happier news, but that can wait until tomorrow. Today, I have more bad news.
Williams, our quaker parrot, died this evening of self-inflicted wounds. In May, he began plucking and mutilated a hole under his wing and was vet checked for it. Since then, we've been managing the situation. He never stopped plucking, and would still regularly irritate the skin beneath his wings, but he didn't cause any more major wounds.
Until today. Overnight, he picked a huge hole under his wing. We discovered it when we took him for his bath. He died less than an hour later.
I wish we knew more about why some quakers mutilate, and I wish we could have fixed his problem. We did everything in our power to help him, both us and our board certified avian vet. It wasn't enough. Sometimes it ends up that way. It still sucks.
williams,
