First, Noire, Madam le Doglet, Queen of the Nubbin, turned four years old two weeks ago. FOUR. It's hard to believe that the obnoxious little puppy we brought home is now an actual dog.
As a celebration of her Four-ish-ness, we decided to take her with us to the Church Street Fetish Fair (think Folsom, but tiny). She's been living the life of a suburban doglet for a while, with few trips into Toronto, and I was a touch nervous about how she'd react. Particularly since I knew what we had planned.
See, Noire has always been much more noise sensitive than Crow is, and much more alert to her environment. So, uh, we put her on the subway. Because that's not challenging!
Actually, though, it wasn't. She was somewhat weirded out on the way there, but curled up under the seats and was okay about it. Cheese helped. She also went on her first escalator too immediately afterwards.
And then she went to the Fair, and was amazing. She got petted, she licked people, she licked people wearing strange things like dog-head suits, and the only even slight stress was at the mechanical bull, which she barked at a few times, stared at thoughtfully, and then got cheese.
Standing and watching a single tail demonstration. Noire thought it was boring.
And then, a fetching hat was applied, and she posed for us.
Then, the subway trip home. This time, she was pretty relaxed about it all. She didn't think it was fun, but she laid down on the floor and wasn't really stressed. The main issue was that she was tired, but she couldn't sleep because it was too vibratey. Poor abused doglet.
Honestly, I couldn't ask for a better dog. She's so good tempered and so sweet and such a wonderful creature. It was great fun to take her out, and I will do so again. :)
Next up, Crow and I are doing our first agility trial on Friday evening. Just two Jumpers runs, mostly so I can figure out how this Trialing Thing(tm) works. We'll see how badly we do. We've charged the video camera, and I have someone to record for me, so I will undoubtedly share this trauma with the internets.
Granted, since the trial is TEENSY, if he qualifies, he'll undoubtedly place. Should be entertaining either way!
