Warning for gay content on... slash comms?

I've realized.... I'm a rather slow person. I follow a handful of comms. All slash. Two comms more than the others. Now, there was a post on a certain comm (I'll not name names because I don't want anyone to get upset; I mean no harm) where a commenter had brought up people who post slash as warnings on a lot of comms (worded of course better than how I'm saying it) and after going to the other comm I follow quite frequently... I realized nearly EVERY single post has a warning that says slash, M/M content, etc (anything to do with homosexual relationships). The thing is, I'm a bit confused as to why that's relevant at all---it's a slash community. People are there for slash. Why warn it?

I've been following that comm for quite awhile and I'd never really noticed or got that... oh, wait, that's a slash warning they're putting!

I kind of wanted to start a discussion on the pile about this, because I'm curious as to how others interpret it and whether it's a big deal or not for some (I can see how offending it can be tho). I do get posting M/M or slash or whatever on sites like fictionpress because it's really hard to dig through all those fics and figure out which ones are slash and which are not (so it's kind of needed, tbh). But on a comm that's geared specifically for slash... I just don't understand. I hope no one gets offended by that, but if someone who does that stumbled upon this my question is merely why?

o.O

stuff, comms, slash
