My main complaint this week is that my lady-friend is gone. Yes, J is back safely in the frozen tundra of Ohio. We had a great time overall, and a pretty bitchin' time this last weekend. We were going to give Magazine Street another shot on Saturday. We ran into a work acquaintance on the way to the ATM, one of my YAV site coordinators while at a coffeeshop, and Andy joined us at the same coffeeshop later. I know maybe five people in New Orleans and I ran into half of them in the span of an hour on Magazine Street.
J and I wanted to venture closer to Magazine @ Jackson Street area, but we ran into the St Patrick's Day parade. That was exciting and I know Jessie loved it. She got tons of beads and veggies, but no flowers & kisses from the Irish Lechers Brigade. A couple of guys on the first or second float did hold up a pair of gigantic panties that read 'Happy St Fatty's Day' embroidered on the front, but they wouldn't throw them to us. No love for the fat chick. It was a good time overall, though.
Handbell performance on Sunday was about average for the group. We did rather well on the first song and fumbled up a few times on the second, but nothing devastating. After church, one of the handbell choir members had a cookout for the group at his house, so that was fun. Nothing quite like hanging out with a bunch of married couples, the youngest of whom is at least 25 years older than I am. It was good, though.
At the nearby coffeehouse, I saw a posting for the North Shore Boardgaming Club, which sounds like fun. I think they meet at the coffeehouse, which is great 'cause I can walk there, and even though there's just two of them right now, and even though I probably won't be able to go often because they meet on Sunday afternoon-evenings when I'm grounded to the church as I wait for volunteer groups to arrive at unpredictable intervals, I might be able to go now and then, and that'll be fun.
Work is the same as it ever is. I was put into a tough and awkward position yesterday. Just a little uncomfortable, though perhaps necessary. It's just a messy situation, like everything else here. I should be able to avoid most of it, though, as usual. That's my modus operandi. Get my work done, stay the hell out of everyone else's business.
Everyone's been congratulating me on the website lately. It's been up for a few months now, but... whatever. It's odd.
I'm doing alright, though. I miss my girlfriend and I'm not excited by work (and less so about the drama that perennially develops here), but I'm doing alright. Listening to the Ruby Suns' new album a lot, 'cause it's fun and un-Slidell like.
