[Becca is waiting patiently by a line, determined to do this right. Following rules and being obedient? What -have- you done to Becca, Sniper??]

[He'd come over with a gun.]

First thing is loading and preparing, a very important part.

[Showing her how to load the BB's into the gun and get it ready to fire. He was proud of her being so patient.]

Ever fire a BB gun before?

No, I haven't.

[She's drinking this up and trying hard. She's never had a reason to try before, and discovering that trying isn't actually all that difficult.]

I don't...see really well though...d'you think I'll be good at this?

[He'd nod, she wouldn't be a great soldier but he could at least get her shooting.]

Glasses can help if your vision is bad, so can a good scope. Are you just near sighted or do you have some other issues?

I'm -really- nearsighted. [She takes off her glasses and offers them to him to see. Or...in his general direction, at least. She's completely blind without those on her face, and can't even make out her feet from standing up straight.]

I think the school nurse was saying something about getting me checked for a...stiggy...something.... I dunno.

[He looks at them, yeah those were bad.]

Well then you'll just need to keep those on. I wouldn't run off to join a militia or anything but a good marksman makes up for whatever flaws they face.

[He makes sure they go back into her hand so she could put them on.]

Now try sighting down the barrel at your target, even if you're perfect you'll probably miss. These guns aren't perfect.

[She puts them back on before doing -anything-. Then she does as she's told.]

I...think I've got it....

[She takes a deep breath, and fires.]

[It fires a bit to the left at first.]

Now try a little more to your right to compensate for the shoddy quality.

[She aims a bit to the right and tries again.]

...I've got to get good at this...

[This one hit the shirt covered pillow and much closer to the mark.]

Good. Though remember this is just for fun.

If you want to narrow down the error fire several more shots, adjusting left and right until you get a nice small box that you can always hit.

[Becca is still working hard to earn some praise, so she focuses in on doing it, and soon manages to keep hitting the target...not in the centre but just slightly up and to the right from the centre. It seems to be precisely where she's aiming to hit, though.]

[He grinned seeing that.]

There you go. Great shot. You're doing far better than I did when I first started out.

[He used real rifles with kick and all, but they didn't need to get into that.]

[Praise. Becca drinks it. She grins and looks to him for more praise and reinforcement.]

I'm good at this? What's next?

You've gotten further than most of the other kids. So I'll give you something extra since I think you can handle it.. Fire a few more shots while I set you up a moving target.

[Becca's still shocked with herself that she was good at this. Even if it did take her a very, very long time to get the hang of it at first. But she grins and nods, continuing to hit her little box that she's figured out how to get the shot inside.]

[He'd come back after he set up an unused target hanging from a tree.]

One thing you learn is how to be efficient. You time your shot and take it. Don't waste amunition and make the first one count.

I'm going to swing the target. When you have the shot ready, fire. Once.

This is hard but even this can be done with time and effort.

[Hell he was proud of her, even if it took a while Sniper knew this sort of thing didn't come natural to most.]
