Genesis 30: 1-24

Ok well I'm not really sure where to start with this chapter it is full of sin on everyones part. But I believe that all Scripture is God breathed and is profitable... so we will just go verse by verse a see what we are being taught trained and rebuked by.

It starts out with Rachel cursing Jacob because she hasn't had any children. This reminds me of the incident between Jacob and Esau where Esau says" give me soup or I will die". Just like Esau, Rachel compromises the blessing she knows she will get when it is time. Jacob gets angry and harsh with her. He has been like Adam and has been passive and cowardly instead of loving and leading his family. So just like Sarah, Abraham's wife, Rachel takes matters into her own hands and gives her servant to her husband to be a baby's mamma for her. Jacob being passive, goes along with his wife's sinful plans because it seems easier than to stand up and rebuke her. So her maid starts having kids and Leah starts feeling pressured to compete with her sister again which was her sin from the begging. She is unloved by her husband and instead of making God the center of her worship she makes her marriage and the approval of her spouse the objects of her worship. So Leah buys into the cruel game that her sister is playing and gives her servant to Jacob also. Here is another chance for Jacob to make a stand, come to repentance, and put a stop to the chaos in his household. But again he sins by omission, not doing what he should do. Then he sins by commission, by doing something that ought not be done, which was buying into his wives sinful plans. The two sisters battle on in a race to see who can have the most children and all along the way praising God thanking him for the results of their sin.
