So I haven't been around LJ at all the past few months. School ate my life but things are steadily slowing down, as the semester will be over in about two weeks. Not to mention that we're off this week for Thanksgiving, so now I find myself with some spare time to talk about Bleach. Which I haven't done in so long.
I can't remember the last chapter I commented on. I think it might have been as far back as Renji and Byakuya's fight, and a lot has happened since then, hasn't it?
So I've seen some people confused and/or put out by Ichigo apparently being a Quincy. At first I'd felt like it was just Kubo being Kubo. Yet another power-up in the long line of infinite power-ups. But I suppose it's grown on me and I think it could have very well been Kubo's plan from the very beginning. He's made it painfully obvious throughout the series that Quincy and shinigami don't have the nicest history, and there's always been mystery surrounding Isshin's involvement with Soul Society. Now it seems to make sense to me that Ichigo's mother being a Quincy could very well be the reason Isshin's no longer an active shinigami. Honestly, I'm curious to see where Kubo goes with this and I don't think Ichigo being part Quincy is so far-fetched.
What I do think is that if Kubo had this planned from the very, very beginning, then maybe he should've skipped making Ichigo a Vaizard on top of it. Because really, part shinigami part Arrancar AND part Quincy? I'm surprised the kid doesn't freaking exploded with all these different powers swirling around inside him.
Now, at first I wasn't impressed at all by the Zero Squad. For some reason I'd been expecting something...not entirely human? Something so alien it was almost like I imagined just these spiritual orbs of energy. So when they came out looking so completely normal, I was taken aback. Then I was simply disappointed.
This week, though, I think they've won me over. Shutara and He Who's Yet To Be Named have me SO intrigued. Can't wait to see a little bit more revealed about them, especially in regards to his history with Unohana. There's definitely some tension there, isn't there? I'd go so far as to call it hostility. Just what went on between them back in the day? Kubo's been setting us up for TBtP 2, he gave us a taste of it with Yama-jii and Sasakibe, and being denied an official flashback arc is getting painful at this point. Also, is it just me or has anyone else thought that Kubo has a strange thing for creating animosity between especially tall men and some woman of their past? First Nnoitra and Neliel, now Unohana and this new guy... I wonder if it's just a coincidence.
I'd gotten incredibly bored with the manga once Byakuya was taken down, but now I'm looking forward to next week. Please Kubo, have more people telling Soi Fong to get a grip. Lately she's been reminding me why I began disliking her in the first place, and I'd mostly been indifferent to Kensei until he called her out on her bullshit. Now I kinda love the guy.
