I've been thinking lately about getting a game console. The last one I owned was a ColecoVision, in the early eighties. I've always been more of a PC gamer, but lately have had less of an inclination to spend a couple thousand bucks every other year to buy what has essentially become for me an expensive gaming / email machine. I don't do anything

1. Price: I really can't justify shelling out $2500 for a game system that'll be outdated in three years, so I sort of need other reasons to get a new computer. But my own one is still perfectly good, and really, when I feel like working after hours, I prefer going into the office anyway. So, it's a tough sell.
2. Socializing: One of the nice things about a console game is that you can have people over and play together, like Bob and I used to do all those many years ago. That was fun. PC gaming is in some ways a very antisocial activity, if for no other reason than you have to stay in your own room to do it. And playing cooperatively online with your friends (which I'm a big fan of) requires that your friends have similarly tricked-out machines, so you can all play the same games. So, again, a tough one.
But barring these two things, I'd definitely think on getting a new PC.
Oh, there's a 3rd point too: I don't spend much time in front of the PC outside of work, and I frankly like it that way =) If I got an expensive game machine and an addictive game or two, I know I'd be up till the wee hours most nights, and I'd stop going to the gym, and having early-morning coffee & book breaks, and I'd probably turn into a slug. =)

Dave's buddies have the gaming/TV watching PC beside the TV in the living room, and they play together... though sometimes they play their PSPs beside each other on teh couch. ha ha I think they play a lot of Grand Theft Auto, and many things that require me an explanation before I understand.
Addictive games? Don't get World of Warcraft. :D I don't know personally, but there's a work-related person who is addicted it would seem.
Ahhh... mario kart. Can you get a cracked PC playable version of that I wonder? amma wario... and amma gonna ween!
Hmph! The time I could get back if I wasn't online every morning & night. Games are fun for social stuff, I want to download some Commodore 64 simulation software and games for my brother. Choplifter and Mule were fun.
