I've been thinking lately about getting a game console. The last one I owned was a ColecoVision, in the early eighties. I've always been more of a PC gamer, but lately have had less of an inclination to spend a couple thousand bucks every other year to buy what has essentially become for me an expensive gaming / email machine. I don't do anything else with my PC at home - preferring to spend my evenings and weekends playing volleyball, reading, driving around, going to the gym, etc - and in the last couple of years I haven't really even been gaming on it much, due to its age.
Sooo, I might buy a game console sometime soon. But I know nothing (or very little) about them. I'm tempted to wait for the PS3, or maybe get an XBox360. Or maybe save some money and buy a PS2, XBox, or GameCube. Or maybe just stick to PC gaming (which I've always preferred anyway), and save up some cash for an upgrade in a couple of months. I'm sort of stymied. I don't have a lot of extra money kicking around really, and probably shouldn't be spending anything on a game console, but I don't buy toys all that often, so why not? Hmm.
Any suggestions out there? A draw for me would be being able to hook up online with some friends, and a few of you have PS2's. Will the PS be able to play online PS2 games? When's it coming out? Is it supposed to be good? Will it be terribly pricy? It's currently my first choice (after a new PC I suppose), but I know little about this stuff.
