Let’s talk cliches. Specifically, let’s talk fan fiction cliches. The same old, tired cliche is used and it drives me crazy!
I’ll imagine the scene for you: Veronica, having been destroyed by [ her mom leaving, Lilly’s death, her father’s death, the end of her relationship with Logan, etc, etc. ] changes schools and/or colleges. At this school, she undoubtedly meets Wallace and Mac and other secondary characters the author wants to throw in. At this school, she is the most popular, nicest person to ever grace its halls. Everyone wants to either be her friend or date her, and they do not want to sleep with her - they would never dream of it! At this school, she is called by a completely different name. It’s okay with her, she might have even come up with it herself. It also happens X amount of years after high school and/or college.
Does this bother no one else?
I just think that the idea of Veronica, willingly going by some other name, is absolutely ludicrous. I don't even think that she would willingly go by a different name even if she were in the witness protection program (which is the only scenario in which I could see this scenario plausibly working.) It makes no sense to me.
