Letters to Stephen

Nov 17, 2006 00:46

I remember sitting out on your back porch with you on the swing when it would rain. You'd put your arm around me and I'd lay on your shoulder. I felt so safe, so happy.
One night, Chloe came out and we were all talking in poetry. It was silly, all of us sharing ideas like that, but somehow beautiful too. Then when it was Chloe's turn she'd start with these silly rhyming lines... something about Clamato? I don't remember but it was really funny at the time. It felt like we had so much time. I wish that I hadn't taken it for granted.
I wish I'd had the guts to tell you what I felt for you. I wish I'd had the words to tell you that night in the hospital. Maybe I didn't know if I was in love with you, I mean, we were in high school. I had no idea what being in love meant. I still don't. I've never seen real love. Maybe it doesn't exist, but I think it does. The point is that I knew that I loved you. I didn't know in what capacity. I still am not sure. I am sure that I loved you. I just wish I had been able to say that when you could hear me.
I am so glad that I got to share those last precious moments with you. I will never forget them. I will never forget you.
