Learning: Do some everyday!

I explained to the class that Arabic is read from right to left. Isaac said, "I didn't know that!" I replied, "Well now you can say that you learned something new today!"

Helene is about to be suspended if she doesn't appear with a parent tomorrow. Some deal about several of the girls "saying stuff" and "getting on each other's nerves" on facebook.
Helene spends more time trying to get to the assistant principal to "talk" than she does in class. She's always got drama going on around her.

We've been watching "The Rise of the Third Reich" video. We talked about the Anschluss of Austria today and how 5 million Austrians were thrilled to have Hitler come in and take over because of the prosperity that they heard that Germans were experiencing under Hitler. Three days later 70,000 were deported to concentration camps. I explained the categories of people that Hitler would have sent to their deaths. Helene being African-American would have been on the train.

She said, "No I wouldn't. I'm American Indian."
I explained that Hitler would have sent American Indians if they were in Germany, just as he sent away Jews, Roma, Catholics, the handicapped.
"I wouldn't get on the train."
"The soldier would shoot you."
"I'd hit him with a stick first, and then take his gun."
"There are more than just one soldier there to put people on the trains. Another would shoot you."

The other kids are getting tired of her, the same way they got tired of Tony and his arguing.
