Okay everyone listen up

Do NOT read this and think "oh, not a big deal someone else will deal with it..."
Someone else will NOT deal with it, YOU can be a volunteer, YOU can help

I work at the American Red Cross, and I have to tell you - when the head of our organization sent out an official notice saying that this is indeed the worst disaster that the American Red Cross has ever had to deal with - he means it.

This hurricane is not a joke, I was on the phone for the last 6 hours taking calls from people looking for help, trying to find their families, or to report some sort of terrible accident. Listening to trembling, frightened voices of people who had nobody to ask for help but myself and the few people in the desks around me was a frightening experience.
With all of the injured people piling up in our southern region, the Red Cross is asking its volunteers...

Not for clothes
Not for money
Not for food
But for blood

We can't import any more blood from other regions, because we are on a deadly national shortage right now. There is only a 16-hour supply of blood here in GA, and we are still sending several hundreds of units to our Disaster Relief teams. When we only actually have around 1800 units for the whole state, that is a very big deal. Not everyone can stop what they are doing, and fly to Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, or South Georgia to help out. Not everyone can afford to donate money or supplies. But anyone, with few exceptions, can lend and arm and save a life. Each donor provides us with 3 units. That is tremendous. These people need our help in ways we, as an organization, could not even begin to anticipate.

Someone out there needs a little bit of your help a lot.

If you do one good thing this year, please let it be making a blood donation to an entire region in desperate need.
We need YOUR help. You. Now. Please help. Call 1-800-Give Life right now.

If you can take the time out to volunteer with disaster relief, please call 1-800-Help Now
