Another week begins!
This weekend turned out to be fairly busy, despite us having had no plans at the start. Friday night I picked up P from the station fairly late, we grabbed some fish ‘n’ chips on the way home and then watched a DVD before bed. The comedy moment of the evening was watching Paul struggle with the foot pump while attempting to blow up the air-bed for 20 minutes before we discovered that he hadn’t put the rubber bung back into it before beginning, so the air was going in at one side and straight out of the other. The poor fella was knackered from his desperate attempts to inflate the bed and the look on his face when we worked out the problem was priceless ;)
Saturday we went into town to open our joint account, which nearly didn’t happen as during the ID process it was discovered that someone *looks pointedly at P* isn’t on the electoral roll, so the bank manager had to be asked if we could go ahead with the application for the account. Fortunately he didn’t seem to be a stickler, so that was done with no more problems. Now we just have to hope that our chequebooks turn up before the weekend so we can pay the first month’s rent to the landlord when we go to pick up our keys next Saturday.
We went from there to IKEA (after an horrendous car journey where I got lost after coming off the motorway at the wrong junction, hit the traffic jam I’d heard them talking about on the radio, added 45 minutes to the journey, then a thunderstorm and torrential downpour started) where I bought some bits and bobs for the kitchen and more importantly a new office chair. My current one won’t be heading to London with me, as the hydraulics which adjust the seat height are b0rked and it either gently sinks back to it’s lowest level or collapses completely when you sit on it! So I have a new chair, which is mega comfy (though this may be a mistake in that I may choose to relax in it more than work!). We had lunch in IKEA (mmmm meatballs *nom nom*) but I did manage to get out without buying even more candles!!
Later in the evening we popped around to my aunt’s house to meet my new cousin (2 months old and that was my first visit, I’m such a negligent cousin) before heading on to a local pub for a nice dinner (probably our last for a while given impending impoverished-ness).
Sunday we headed to Cheshire Oaks where I bought a few more bits for the kitchen and *ahem* I might have bought a Mulberry handbag *squeees*. It couldn’t decide whether to be sunny or to rain all day so we went from sitting on a bench in the sun to dashing to covered areas of the shops fairly frequently!
The other little bit of new-flat-related news is that mum and dad have said they will make a big contribution to buying me and P and television! I’m so grateful to them, it’s such a kind gesture, and it’s meant we could look for tellies we really wouldn’t have been able to consider without their help. We had always been planning to take the telly P has in his room, though it is a giant thing and would have taken up half the living room, but m&d are helping us get a flat screen one :) We are going to pay-it-forward though, as we are planning to give P’s older telly to a shelter or charitable place that needs it.
Weekend ended with fairly major transport-woe, as we arrived at Lime Street last night to find that P’s train had been cancelled. As it was the last train of the evening, P was understandably put out. Virgin wanted him to go to Manchester and try to get on the last train from there to London, but there was no guarantee it wouldn’t have already left. So we got assurance from the staff and his ticket stamped so he could go on any train today, which was slightly better, but meant he had to call work to get someone to cover his meeting at 10am. It was lovely to get an extra unexpected evening with him though :)
So that’s the whistle-stop tour of my weekend and now here I am back in my office in Liverpool for another week and with no idea how many more times I might be sat at this desk. I’ve had my second training review in this seat today, which went fine and in a way it now just feels like I’m waiting to go. It’s very hard for me to feel settled!
