Today was an example of how something relatively small and innocuous has the potential to make the task of getting on with your day’s work take longer and be immensely frustrating.
This morning, my mouse randomly stopped wanting to ‘go right’ across the screen. It would happily go up, down and left - but not right. I opened it up and took out the ball, ‘de-fluffed’ it and tried again. No luck - going right was still beyond it.
In the end I emailed stationery for a new mouse - however it took a while to arrive - and in that ‘while’ I was reduced to wiggling my fingers inside the mouse ball space to try and get the pointer to go where I wanted it to. Infinitely annoying - plus I received some strange looks whilst I was at it.
The guy who came to replace my mouse said that apparently the balls wear down over time - I didn’t know that!
Before anyone asks - there is no metaphor for anything else hidden in this post - this is a serious post about what actually happened :)
