First Week (Proper)...

I think I better get on with the job of writing about the first week at work - or none of the things I want to write about now will make any sense.

The first 3 days of last week were taken up with Orientation (Monday and Tuesday) then IT training (Wednesday). Orientation consisted of a series of talks from various people within the firm ranging from Health and Safety to recognising how not achieving our targets can have a significant impact on the profit of the business. Some of the things that I had anticipated as a little dull on first sight of the timetable actually turned out to be very informative and quite absorbing.

There were 12 other new trainees going through the same orientation as me and over 2 days we all got along really nicely. To be honest, I haven't come across one person that hasn't been friendly and talkative in the short time I have been here. It was a bit of a shame when we all left at the end of day two, knowing we were all going off to our respective offices throughout the country the next day. There are a couple of people I've promised to keep in contact with though, I think one was in the Manchester - must make a note to pop an e-mail to them this week some time.

On day 3 the IT training was a bit of a nightmare! I mean, I thought I knew quite a lot about computers and how to get around on one - but as it turns out there are several hundred (yeah, I'm exaggerating) programs used by solicitors to aid them in everything from their time management to linking all the bits of a case together. There was so much to take in, and though part of me felt that I'd finally get to grips with it all once I had been using these things for a while, my brain was quite frazzled when I got in after work.

We're really lucky really. The guy that co-ordinates trainees is brand new to that role within the firm and he's really enthusiastic - his opening talk made us feel really proud to be there and valued as new employees.

So that was the Induction. For the remainder of the week, and right up to now I've been with my new team. I think that bit merits a new entry though :)
