Understandably, the podiatrist/foot surgeon wants to avoid surgery. So he duct taped a bunch of thick pads on the bottoms of my insole. I have to admit it did make them more cushiony and supportive. I have to give it 2 weeks and hope it improves things.
In other news, I tried to donate blood today. I found out about the local blood drive last night so I made an appointment. Apparently 15 hours was not long enough in advance for the lady to get my appointment time. I knew things were not going to go well, between that and when she told the guy in front of me that she wrote him down as having an appointment (obviously that meant he was a walk-in) so that, instead of having to wait behind those with appointments, he could get it faster. Several years ago, I walked in on a whim and was told the opposite.
So, yeah 25 minutes after my scheduled time, there was still a line of people waiting. I asked the lady how much longer, she said there was still someone ahead of me. I told her never mind and I left.
Another time I tried, I made the appointment well ahead of time. I got there a few before my appointed time and, as I walked to the door, a couple came running up-very nearly shoving me aside in the process of getting to the door-and got to the receptionist in front of me. Their appointment had been some 30 or minutes prior to mine. The receptionist told me they would go first because, “they are regulars and have to travel a ways to get to that Red Cross office. Someone had walked up to me said we could begin the process right away and ushered me into a room. She said she would be right back, but 20 minutes later it was clear that was not the case. I heard someone enter and the receptionist tell them that they were just in time as they would be the last person to donate for the day. I walked out of the office they all managed to hide me away in, much to the surprise of everyone including the woman who had developed a sudden case of amnesia and forgot I was there. They offered to take my blood, but I had another appointment to get to a few hours later and told them no thank you. I told them it was obvious they did not need my blood that badly and left.
And then there was one of the times I went for my birthday. I got there a few minutes before my appointment and found out there was a new system where you fill out the whole questionaire online. Someone else walked in after me and said she was 30 minutes early for her appointment. Because she had done the online stuff they said they would take her ahead of me. I could understand if her appointment was, like, 15 minutes after mine, but in 30 minutes they could have taken me first. But, nope, I have to wait for her.
So, yeah, I probably won't be donating blood again anytime soon.
