Last week I worked Monday and Wednesday thru Saturday nights. I was supposed to be off Sunday, but there were not enough aides so a coworker convinced me to work that night provided she drive me there as the bus I take does not stop at the hospital on weekends and getting there on Saturday was difficult.

So there I was, standing at the street that passes thru my apartment complex, wearing my nurse aide uniform waiting for K to drive along when I heard screaming cries across the street. A girl about the age of 7 or 8 who was previously happily riding her bike up and down the sidewalk, was now lying face down, next to her bike, lying on it's side and she was now screaming her brains out. A friend of hers ran to her and I waited to see if she would stop crying and get up. She didn't. So I had to go over and assess the situation. I walked up to them. The girl who ran (girl B) over to the girl who fell off her bike (girl A) said she would go get girl A's brother. I said ok, thank you. In the meantime, I told girl A my first name and told her to relax for a moment. She did and stopped crying. I asked her if she could stand. She nodded. I very slowly helped her to her feet. I asked her if anything hurt. She pointed to her knees. I told her I was going to check them to see if she scraped them. She hadn't. By that time her brother, about 20 + years of age came running up. I told him she seemed to be ok, mostly got the wind knocked out of her. He thanked me, picked up the girl's bike and took them both back towards the building where they live. Moments later, the girl and another boy, roughly her age, were riding their bikes up and down the sidewalk, she a little more carefully than before.
