Bah, Humbug

I found out I know someone who's brother is an (out of work) certified mechanic. He was supposed to stop by my place Saturday to look at my car, but his whole family got the flu. So he came over today after I got off work.

He got the radiator cap off only to find most of the fluid was turning into a solid form and was clogging the opening. After digging it out he poured more in and turned on the car. The fluid kept bubbling right back out. He has a couple theories as to why there is so much air preventing the fluid from going into the radiator, but of course it involves taking parts out.

In the meantime, it was discovered that one of the fans is no longer working. The last time I took the car to mechanics it worked. This time it refused to go on.

Also, the brake fluid is the wrong color and, therefore, needs to be flushed and replaced.

I am off work until next Monday night and planned to go to Illinois. I tentatively decided to take the train, but had wanted to wait until I knew I definitely should not drive my car. By that time, the price of a train ticket to get back from Chicago to Ann Arbor on Sunday had gone up $20. That in addition to Amtrak already raising the prices for the holiday made me decide I need to save that money for my car repair funds.
